A Level in one year (distance learning) & UCAS

My DC is almost certain to be taking a gap year intending to take a brand new A - Level by Distance learning so she can get 3As, she is not happy with her uni choices. She will hopefully have A*A and lower grade for her 3rd(It has not gone well). She wants to take a new subject & one she is bright enough to get an A.
How would it work for UCAS as obviously, she will only have 2As when applying, and it will be harder to get a predicted grade for the application if she is doing it in one year?
Has anyone DC done this?

As you have identified, the difficulty will be getting the distance-learning college to predict a grade for the A-level she's doing in the year of application.

There's no other reason why this should cause problems unless she's applying for a highly competitive course that requires three A-levels to be completed in 2 years. You'd be able to check this on university web sites, but it's not commonly a requirement outside medical schools, etc.

Will the new one be directly relevant to the degree? Is she going to sit the weaker one this year. Is she sure she cannot get in to the course with her current predicted grades?

Not directly related however will be her 3rd humanities subject and wants to do a humanities subject degree. She is sitting the weaker subject however not much chance of an improved final grade. The subject she is struggling with is not related at all to her degree choice. She can get on a course, but not one she is happy with. She wants to go to Manchester or Leeds but her 3rd grade is not high enough to get an offer.
