DH and I were a bit concerned he might come back after our bedtime so 11 pm curfew was set. Only very minor sulking from DS.
I’m in awe of your 11pm curfew. Last week DD went OUT at 11pm!

justasking111 · 27/12/2019 21:28

We do not have a curfew. DS sometimes works so late in the pub am just grateful when he gets a lift home which saves me sitting outside in the cold waiting for him to finish clearing up at one in the morning. We do insist that he keeps in touch if he is out with mates I would rather go fetch him at once if there was a problem no matter what the time.

Piggywaspushed · 27/12/2019 21:33

We do early bedtimes in our house! Always have done! Vvvv unusual for any of us to be in bed after 8.30. The first few weeks at uni comprised of DS sending me confused texts on Sunday mornings as to where everyone was!

I always have been like the dormouse in the teapot.

Anyway, he is now sat watching football which I think he secretly wanted to do anyway since he turned down a trip to McDonalds.

Piggywaspushed · 27/12/2019 21:34

Just realised that's confusing . I mean it is very unusual for any of us not to be up by 8.30...

Early to bed and early to rise etc!

Benjispruce · 27/12/2019 21:36

Oh I like a bedtime before 11pm, it just doesn’t have anything to do with DD’s schedule. Apparently NOBODY goes out before 10! Hmm and she gets home about 3/4am when the clubs close.

ZandathePanda · 27/12/2019 21:36

In Newcastle Dd often goes out after 11pm. It was so civilised when all pubs in England shut at 11pm!

bigTillyMint · 27/12/2019 21:36

@Benjispruce Grin same here!
@justasking111, we have never had a curfew, just asked that we had an idea of who they were with, initial plans, and that they answered texts/calls PDQ if we woke in the night and wondered where they were.
I'm more worried about them coming back and making a noise or cooking at 4am now Blush

Benjispruce · 27/12/2019 21:40

I agree it was better when I was a teen and the latest a club closed was 2. Last week we were just switching our lights out when her cab arrived. Then I’m awoken at 4am by her putting the key in the door, I then drop off again relieved she’s home. However, she then is making toast or something and sits downstairs on her phone before waking me up again when she comes upstairs and ALWAYS cleans her teeth and taps her brush on the side of the sink Angry

bigTillyMint · 27/12/2019 21:45

@Benjispruce, DS says the clubs in Durham shut at 2 - have to go to Newcastle for "proper" club hours Grin

Piggywaspushed · 27/12/2019 21:45

I think this might be symptomatic of semi rural living!

He would not be popular in this house if he woke anyone up... chilled my DH is not.

Anyway, the point of the story is he was back IN by 8.48. Rock and Roll!

ZandathePanda · 27/12/2019 22:10

A symptom of semi rural living is Dd ending up in Newcastle Grin

Piggywaspushed · 27/12/2019 22:37

I am sure he stays out later in Lincoln but I know he has left clubs after half an hour because of the 'noise' and not being able to get a drink!

Ginfordinner · 27/12/2019 23:12

"A symptom of semi rural living is Dd ending up in Newcastle"

Ditto Zanda. The last train back leaves just after 10.30.

bigTillyMint · 28/12/2019 13:25

I think DS went the opposite way to Durham (from living in London) Grin

Benjispruce · 28/12/2019 14:40

Anyone looking forward to their DC’s return to uni? Wink

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/12/2019 15:37

I've come to the conclusion that DS is still living his quiet, monastic lifestyle at university. I reckon he's spent no more than £20 since being home, has only met up with school friends in broad daylight and hasn't been out once of an evening. Granted he has been ill for a week but still....

OP posts:
Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 16:05

DD is feeling really sorry for herself. She is worried about not doing any work, but feels too ill to do any.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/12/2019 16:09

Just as well they've got a month off over Christmas, given that most seem to have lost at least a week with being ill.

OP posts:
Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 16:26

At least she is at home with us being plied with regular food, drink and drugs.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/12/2019 16:41

We have just discovered the wonders of Night Nurse - never used it previously but DS had a very good night's sleep with it last night.

OP posts:
simbobs · 28/12/2019 16:41

A month off?! Mine are back on 4th/5th Jan and didn't get home until 20th Dec. DS still not done any work at all. He went out on Christmas day in the evening and didn't come home until 4am today! It was more or less an organised visit to gf family but ended up being somewhat extended, then DS had to catch up with other friends. He insists that he will be home tonight - alone. I really want to see something of him before he disappears again. DD, on the other hand, has been out with friends twice but is otherwise ensconced in her room studying hard.

bigTillyMint · 28/12/2019 16:46

@NewModelArmyMayhem18, Night Nurse does the business!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/12/2019 16:50

Oh sorry that not all seem to have a month off - thought that was kind of standard (based on my own experience of university too).

Indeed it does @bigTillyMint, although DS complaining that "it doesn't taste nice."

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 28/12/2019 16:58

It tastes terrible, but it knocks you out Grin

DS is back a month, DD officially 3 weeks I think.

Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 16:59

DD has three weeks off, but her first week back is a revision week with no lectures, so she could stay home for another week if she prefers.
