Hello anyone with knowledge of the admissions process at Manchester Uni.
Dd is applying for the MChem course to start 2020, she has already done A levels and has the right subjects and 3 A grades. The published requirement is A* A A. She has been offered an interview. Is the interview process really competitive, how strong are her chances do you think?
Anyone know what they are looking for at interview?
Thank you.

DS did this course Smile. As far as I remember his interview was about a half hour and he was asked about his interests and reasons wanting to do the course. He had done a fair bit of reading round and had done an EPQ in a related pharmacology subject. I remember the interviewer said I can tell you like your drugs Hmm

I think with those grades your dd wil be fine. DS said everyone with grades at that level got accepted on the MChem rather than the BSc but of course I don't know how many didn't get an offer. She will

Smile. Sound interested. Good luck!

Thanks AmoAmasAmat.

Was your Ds glad he did that course rather than the BSc?
Did he enjoy Chemistry at Manchester?
Dd is very keen to do the year in industry.

Don’t have experience of Manchester, but at the HEI I work at, moving between BSc and MChem is relatively easy in the first couple of years, depending on performance being ok. I think that’s fairly typical of the industry as a whole

Not Chem but MBioChem 2 years ago - 30 mins and very much a sales pitch as much as selective interview. Very friendly, great tour for candidates and hangers-on, undergrads to chat to etc...very impressive. Obviously should prepare as would for any interview, but nothing to fear - both DD and I were very very impressed with Manchester. Hope that helps x

Same experience for DS4 as for jaguar's DD.

I have no experience on Mcr Mchem, but DS is at a different uni doing Chemistry, have PM’d you regarding YII placements.

@CrossMaGlen - DS1 has an interview for the course last month and was offered a place (verbally) on the day. It was definitely a marketing not recruiting interview.
