DD finished an MSc this summer and is expecting a merit. She’s had positive responses from a PhD proposal but it looks as if her dissertation grade and full transcript will not be available until after the December application/funding deadline. Will she have to leave it a year or is there any other options?

No reason to leave it a year - they may not respond to her application until after her results are in. Get her to check. But it does seem strange she hasn't heard back with grades yet.

I applied for mine with prospective grades and started very soon after my results were in. Hope your DD finds something she can be passionate about for 3 years!

My dd finished her Masters this year. Applied for a funded studentship PhD, advertised on find a PhD website. She didnt have transcripts of grades as they aren't published till end of oct. So she got her supervisor to predict her grades from what she had so far. She got the funded PhD place and started a month ago. She could have gone the self proposal route of finding a supervisor and go for funding. I think they are okay with not having transcripts if supervisor's reference gives them some idea of realistic outcome of grades. But she should get them very soon now. Good luck.
