Previous thread and hope you don't mind that I set up the next thread @juicy0. Just did it to ensure that we carry on chatting seamlessly Wink

I think it worked. She is certainly hard work, she howls at night. We slept downstairs for 6 nights. Last night we went upstairs, she yelled for about 10 mins then slept, she started again at 12.30am and 3am. I got up and took her out 12.30 and dh the 3am trip. Then she cried for 10 mins or so and settled. So she's getting the idea. It's almost like having a baby. She's quite bitey too. I'll know she will get worse before she gets better.

@Itscoldouthere yes I am sure it'll be great to come back. I love the thought of the adventure of living in another country. But in reality I'm sure it would be quite hard. I'm sure you'll settle in, it will be nice when your boys join you out there. Definitely an adventure for them.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/03/2020 07:52

Oh thank you @icanbewhatiwant. Soooo cute. Hope you and your DH start getting less disturbed nights soon though.

Good luck with your journey back into the UK @Itscoldouthere.

What a lovely little puppy. Hours of entertainment to come there. Your DS will fall in love over Easter.
Do any of you Geography mums have any idea about the timings for this Slapton Sands trip? DS seems not to know anything concrete. Dates would be useful, transport arrangements or what kit/food is needed. I get lots of WhatsApp videos from the LCR and Spoons but no actual useful stuff . Thanks

juicy0 · 10/03/2020 06:41

@sluj no info on the trip from DD either, I'll try and speak to her in the next couple of days and report back. Her only comment so far has been that the whole week is meat free catering.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/03/2020 07:21

@sluj @juicy0 DS told me it was just after Easter (the impression I got was that he would possibly have to travel back to UEA on the Easter Sunday/Monday). I think it's for a week. Other than that I know nothing.

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/03/2020 07:23

Of course, it may not happen with Covid-19 rife.

sluj · 10/03/2020 13:36

DS has now told me it's from 11th to 18th so that's leaving on Saturday. I just dont trust him Wink
It looks like he won't have time to come home after it anyway so its effectively the end of the Easter holidays.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/03/2020 14:57

That time-frame includes the Easter BH weekend @Sluj? Is that likely? I think by the time DS has been at home with DD for three weeks (by which point they will be arguing again), it will be time for him to go back!

OP posts:
sluj · 10/03/2020 17:59

He says it includes the Easter weekend. It used to be so simple when a letter came home in the book bag Hmm

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/03/2020 18:20

Well, I guess it could include Easter although I would have thought most of their lecturers would want the long BH weekend????

Totally agree re letters in school bags... when life was so much simpler!

OP posts:
icanbewhatiwant · 10/03/2020 21:42

Ha ha yes. I still have a year 6 child. Letters in book bags are great. I shall miss them when he goes to secondary school.

juicy0 · 11/03/2020 13:37

DD has just forwarded me the details of the trip which I think she found on Blackboard.
Departs by coach from uea at 08:45 on Friday 10th April and returns at approx 6pm on fri 17th April.
Slapton Ley Field Centre

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/03/2020 13:51

Well done to your DD @juicy0. Surprising that it's over the Easter weekend but needs must.

OP posts:
sluj · 11/03/2020 14:06

Thank you Juicy0, my DS would have missed the coach if you hadn't posted that. Dont suppose there is a kit list??

juicy0 · 11/03/2020 15:13

Sorry @sluj no sign of a kit list. @NewModelArmyMayhem18 I'm a bit disappointed that it's over the Easter weekend as I was looking forward to some family time but, as you say, needs must.
It does also say that the trip includes a summative assessment accounting for 34% of the marks for the module so it's not just a jolly!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/03/2020 15:29

Slapton Sands is a bit in the middle of nowhere (although I'm pretty sure the HQ of Riverford Organic is nearby) - it's where that horrible WW2 tragedy happened with lots of US servicemen's lives lost Sad. We visited while on holiday with the DC about ten years ago. Little realising that DS would be treading over the same ground a decade later.

juicy0 · 13/03/2020 07:05

So DD and I were talking yesterday about her plans for the Easter hols aside from the trip to Slapton. We were looking at dates for various things we are planning and were shocked to realise that next term is only 8 weeks in total. Her last lectures are on 12th June and she has to be out of halls by 15th June. I can't believe how quickly the first year has gone by!!

Itscoldouthere · 13/03/2020 12:24

Hello everyone, I don’t want to make you all think I’m mad, but due to our complicated moving situation, I’m getting slightly concerned about university not going back after Easter.
I think it’s because there is talk about Durham not going back on another MN thread.
Do you think this could happen at UEA, if they cancel lectures do you think they would also make them move out of halls?
Obviously, would be a PITA for us as after Easter we will not have a home in the UK.
Hopefully I’m over thinking!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/03/2020 12:31

I'm just not sure @Itscoldouthere. I would have thought that as the contract is for 38 weeks (longer in some cases) they couldn't just turf people out ahead of the end of it? Some people may not have somewhere else to go (i.e. your boys).

There's a lot of uncertainty about at the moment. One big ?.

Sorry, that doesn't seem a very helpful answer. Would it be worth getting in touch with the Accommodation Office at UEA?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/03/2020 12:35

A very recent update (today) on the UEA website re COVID-19.

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/03/2020 12:36

No cases reported at UEA or in Norfolk apparently.

OP posts:
juicy0 · 13/03/2020 12:53

DD says there is a flat who have self isolated. Her lecture today was cancelled due to corona rather than strike and there is talk lectures next week will not be face to face

icanbewhatiwant · 13/03/2020 12:53

Yes so far no cases in Norfolk and 1 in Suffolk. But I've just heard our health centre has closed down due to a patient going in this week who has now been hospitalised with suspected coronavirus. We are in Suffolk but very close to the border. So if it is the virus it was bound to hit sooner or later.

Are you back here yet @Itscoldouthere ? I hope you can get in and back out the country again.
Ds2 was due to go to Madrid next week. Dh won't go abroad so it was ds2's first time on a plane. That has now been cancelled. He's not happy. But as the schools etc there have been closed down it's been a sensible decision.

Ds2 is asking about his GCSEs as they say peak will be 10-12 weeks. Gcse time. So not sure what'll happen if it does peak then. The same goes for third year university students and A level students. Perhaps it won't be as bad as they think.
