Short Modern Language courses

Dd is currently planning her gap year. Any recommendations please for post A level short language courses (French and/or German) to improve fluency and give her a cultural experience, probably residential abroad.

You could go to the Language Show live at Olympia in London in November. Bound to be ideas there. Or look at Cactus languages www.esl.co.uk for gap year ideas.

Have you tried the Goethe institute for German - they run courses in Germany - not sure if link will work but if not just google for goethe institute. They do courses in UK as well,

The various cultural institutes also run courses in London, not sure where you are based, but could be an option if language courses overseas are not feasible financially.

Thanks for the reminder about the Language Show, I think I am going to go to that myself this year to see if I can find anything for ds next summer in Spain (between Y12 and Y13).

German, Geothe residential courses are first rate. For French you might look at Accord, who run a summer school on a campus just outside Paris.

For french I send mine to a language school in Cannes every summer, unsurprisingly they love it and have an amazing time. It isn't immersive and there are students from all around the world so they often get to practice Spanish as well. Mine go regularly and by the age of 18 the eldest's spoken French was the same level as the Swiss boys attending who lived in the German speaking areas.

The Goethe-Institut here in Berlin has a pretty good reputation, and obviously it would be excellent for diving into local German culture. But I don't know if they offer complete packages that include accommodation.

Thanks for those, dd is quite taken by the idea of Cannes! I can't see any info about their culture packages though, just add-on prices. Will take another look at Goethe Institute too
