Just looking for support/advice for anyone who might be going down the dentistry route in 2021. Advice welcome from those already there or heading off in 2020.

I went through it all and dd1 is now in her 3rd year at Newcastle. We don't come from a medical/ dentist background so it was all new. The biggest obstacle was .getting the work experience as she had no contacts but going round with her CV in person got her one willing practice. So get on with that asap All the practices were impressed with her gcses as well which helped her gave confidence in her application.

Definitely attend at least one open day as she gained invaluable insight into what was wanted from an application. She visited 6 in total

My DD is unsure whether she wants to study Dentistry or Medicine for 2021 entry. She's been lucky enough to have completed 6 days WE within a hospital setting and has three different dental practices willing to offer her WE, she just need time to fit them in!

Has your DC got an idea where they'd like to study? Mine will be happy enough to go wherever will have her! We did go to the Cardiff open day last Saturday but the dental school was shut because they're 'not allowed' to open on weekends? There was plenty of representation there from the Dental dept there and students ready to share their glowing reviews! We knew it would be shut, and you could visit on Friday afternoon but we weren't able to sort it out in time.

I hope this board becomes more active as we go along - although it's a long time away it all happens so quickly!
