Home comforts to take to uni.

DD will be off in a few weeks time so need to get ourselves organised... She will be staying at the Uni’s on campus accommodation. The room is a reasonable size but ever so bland! She has a small on suite bathroom and a few shared cooking facilities. Apart from the obvious items any recommendations of things to take? I’m trying to put a bag together with bits and pieces to make the room a bit more comfy and less bland. Recommendations greatly appreciated. Thank you

Youngest says dressing gown and slippers , cuddly toy and blanket.

I love the idea of the cactus having become essential for student life

A door stop because they want to prop their doors open and chat/get to know their new flatmates.

I made DS2 a crocheted blanket to take to uni. I actually taught myself specifically to do so.

Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, rehydration sachets and cold remedies. They all get "Freshers flu".

Sliders to walk around the flat in.

When DS2 went, and I knew he wasn't home sick and was completely settled, I used to send him postcards from Touchnote. It's an app that makes photos on your phone/tablet into postcards. He loved getting them and it brightened up his room.

DS2 had a cactus and some succulents too.

Dd has actually asked to be added to our family tracker app when she goes to uni

I know everyone says doorstops & mine took them too, but just be aware for inspections that they aren't actually allowed if the doors are fire doors (most are).

Dd says she'll just shove a book or folded cardboard underneath if needed

New soft and fluffy clothes for lounging around in

Communications from the very off (so weekly call/email/postcard/letter from the very outset) . I really like the postcard idea, and might nick that for next time around.

A Breville sandwich toaster.... everyone wants a go after the pub so a good way of making friends.

Might be worth holding off on the rug until you know the measurements of the room. DS1 didn't have room on his floor for a rug, it was all bed & desk (laminate floor). DD had industrial carpet but didn't bother with a rug. Also if you are getting an airer for laundry, get a slimline one.

Cactuses/cacti? are a useful plant because it’s hard to kill them if you forget to water them.

Think it's a universal given of every single freshers week that there's an on-campus poster sale in the first week where everyone will buy whatever the poster-of-the-era is for their walls to date the period of time when they were at uni (was the Trainspotting "Choose Life" speech for me... Lord of the Rings apparently for DH) so don't worry too much about that one. I've seen the freshers programme for the uni I'm going back to and the ubiquitous poster sale is scheduled there as well so the tradition continues!

Ha, it was ZZ Top, Eliminator for me. There were a few Athena tennis player flasher ones in some of the boys rooms.
