I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

Ok thanks for your help. They are still missing out 2018-2019 which is the year just gone. Neither of us earned enough to pay tax that year. So my son would have got the full loan. I guess we have to wait for next year to put that amount in. I'm not sure on 2019/20 earnings yet. But can give a rough estimate. It might help him.

So do you think I can download both those forms in your link (pff2 and CYI) instead of filling out my email? I had an email asking if I wanted to help ds then i have to put in our income. Or do I go ahead and fill in the email. It would be much easier to just earn a simple wage. But self employed it gets complicated.

MrsBartlet · 17/08/2019 16:43

I have just been looking at the accommodation options and see that it is a 38 week license yet the terms only cover 30 weeks of the year. Does that mean they still have their rooms over the Christmas and Easter holidays?

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 16:54

Yes I did read they don't have to vacate Christmas or Easter.

MrsBartlet · 17/08/2019 16:59

Oh that is great Smile Dd graduated in the summer and we had to empty her room out every holiday for the best part of 4 years. Very glad not to have to do that any more!

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 17:10

Yes I read some universities have conferences over Easter and use the rooms. Thankfully UEA don't.

TheNemesisOfLame · 17/08/2019 17:11

DS spent last year in Willow. He loved it.

You can stay on campus if you want to visit- very reasonable prices with parking, go into the City for the evening by bus and you can use the SU bar. Can be noisy if its club night though...

You do the online application for the year they have asked for. When the award is received, you then redo the application with the CYI form marked with the red arrow and send it in the post. It took 3 weeks from us sending it off to getting new award.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 18:48

Ok thanks @NotSorry so I still fill online one in via email? Presumably I will get a reference number. Though dh says he can't predict this coming years earnings till after 1st April. We might end up just paying the extra ourselves.

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 19:06

Yes you fill the initial application in online with the 2017/2018 year - then when they send the award (could be a couple of weeks) you then send the CYI off in the post. You will be given a reference to put on the paper form.

I’m self employed so have had to guess too - they said that they would adjust the following year (2nd year university) if necessary. It is a palaver but we got there in the end.

I kept a copy of what I sent off, for my own reference.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/08/2019 19:24

This was us 4 years ago. DS2 loved his time at UEA, so much so he's now living and working In Norwich and is planning on buying a house there with his girlfriend.

His room was in the City, they put him there despite it not being a preference and we couldn't get them to change it. We didn't get a time slot to pick his keys up, just the allocation of a day. That was the same for my cousin's DC, and DS2's friend who all started the same week. The queue was huge and then there's the queue for Freshers wristbands, if they've ordered them.

DS1 stayed with DS2 when he went to visit but we've stayed in Premier Inns and Air BnBs when we go.

Good luck to all your DC, and you, it's an exciting but nervous time.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 19:53

Thanks very much @NotSorry that's a great help. I will wait to get exact figures from the accountant on Monday. I know mine for 2017 (I'm self employed too) but dh isn't quite sure as it was complicated as he sold his business and retired. Then email back the forms.

CointreauVersial · 18/08/2019 02:18

Well, this is nice!

I was just speed-reading the uni results day thread, thinking, gosh, UEA is getting a lot of mentions; wish someone would start a thread, and...voila!

DD1 will be starting at UEA, reading Psychology with a Year Abroad. It was her Insurance choice (she missed her Firm, Warwick, by a country mile, but I think her predicted grades were a little ambitious, to be honest), but she absolutely loved UEA when she came to the open day, and isn't remotely disappointed. I'm getting very good vibes about the place.

I'm just trying to get my head around everything that needs to be done over the next few weeks! We've not heard anything back about accommodation (applied back in July - I can't even remember what for), and I need to give her a nudge about the Welcomefest wristbands (pricy!).

One issue about the dropoff - we need to do this on the Saturday, because we're flying off to Spain on Sunday....I don't know how slots are allocated, but I'm hoping there's some flexibility. Anyone know?

icanbewhatiwant · 18/08/2019 07:15

@CointreauVersial my son had an email saying he'd get told his accommodation on Monday. Then he has 3 days to accept. Did your daughter get that email. If not I'm sure it won't be long.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/08/2019 08:33

@CointreauVersial welcome to UEA!!

My DD has been notified that her move in day is the 22nd. She is Barton.

I'm sure in extenuating circumstances you could go earlier but maybe wait and see what day they give you? Some are 21st, some 22nd.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/08/2019 08:46

Wondering whether date allocation is done alphabetically, or original firms first, followed by insurance, followed by clearing entrants?

@CointreauVersial with your DD effectively the paying customer, you'd like to think there would be some flexibility.

juicy0 · 18/08/2019 09:07

@mumsiedarlingrevolta can I ask how your DD was notified of her move in date? I can't find that info on the confirmation DD received.

OP posts:
mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/08/2019 09:26

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I don't think so-my DD accepted her unconditional and was allocated her halls before results and she is the 22nd.
I assume its logistical? Her whole flat is the same.

@juicy0 DD got an email with her room allocation and the "licence start date" was there

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/08/2019 09:39

@mumsiedarlingrevolta oh, maybe it's done by geographical location then?

Time will tell I guess.

We are a car-free family so wondering whether DS plus one parent will be able to carry everything required.

icanbewhatiwant · 18/08/2019 09:43

Those of you knowing your rooms...are you unconditional offers?
As I said above my son was told Monday...UEA was firm choice.

sluj · 18/08/2019 09:43

That's interesting that the whole flat got the same day, it would be horrible to be the first one in to a flat that was empty for hours or until the next day. Though you would get first choice of kitchen cupboard and fridge shelf Smile

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/08/2019 09:55

Thinking about it, it could be potentially devastating to be rattling around a student flat alone for 24 hours if you were feeling very sad about moving away from home/family/friends/partner etc...

juicy0 · 18/08/2019 10:13

@icanbewhatiwant yes DD was unconditional offer so her room was allocated and confirmed in July

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/08/2019 10:24

icanbewhatiwant that's interesting. So the confirmation of accommodation was basically a notification that he'd got his place??

icanbewhatiwant · 18/08/2019 10:46

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 we don't know what accommodation yet. DS been had an email confirming his place and it said that Monday is the day he'll be told which accommodation he has. He is at work till 5.45pm. So he will find out in the evening. Though he might have a sneaky look at emails while at work.
