I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

Does anyone know when they move in? It says 21st/22nd online. Is that correct.
Juicy0 you said you were 20 mins away. Do you mind me asking whether you are north or south of UEA? I'm just wondering if you are our direction. We are south. Don't worry if you prefer not to say. Smile

sluj · 17/08/2019 09:44

If I recall correctly, they give you a slot over the weekend. You don't want 30 families tripping up and down the stairs together with boxes and mattress toppers!

sluj · 17/08/2019 09:46

We arent an Apple family so we use WhatsApp video call for longer chats. Seems to work better than Skype.
It's all seeming a bit real now. DS is off to sunny climes with friends tonight so it will be a taster session for me (though I think an Inbetweeners type lads holiday is far more worrying than 3 years in Norwich)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/08/2019 09:53

Wonder when we find out when their moving in slot will be, as we will need to book an overnight stay methinks.

juicy0 · 17/08/2019 09:59

@icanbewhatiwant I live south of the city. DD hasn't mentioned anything about being given a slot to move in, only a date I think. I'll get her to check her emails when she's up 🙄

On their accommodation allocation letter it will say which day they have been allocated (in DS's case Sat 21st), but not the time. I guess if they are giving timeslots out we will hear soon, but as we have a 2 1/2 or 3 hour drive I guess it will be tricky to guarantee that we get there bang on time unless we leave super early and hang out in the Sainsbury's.

Missyelliottsaysso · 17/08/2019 10:06

Hi just checking in...my DD starts this September at her first choice uni and is really excited.
She is the baby of the family so have had the uni experience before with my other DD at a different Uni.
She will be staying at the village, we liked the rooms when we went to the open day and the walk form the main campus is only about 15 minutes. We are getting bits ready for her accommodation and I read that moving will be 21st/22nd Sept....I wonder how they allocate who moves in when. Nightmare with all the parents and kids and belongings turning up the same weekend!

Missyelliottsaysso · 17/08/2019 10:10

We live about 3 hours ago so was going to do an overnight stay, have a nice meal the night before...drop her off, get her set up then leave.

A question for those who have done university before...my son has just applied for student bank account. We have to wait a week to see if he's accepted. I expect he will need to go into the local bank too. My husband opened an account recently at the same bank and it was a 3 week wait for appointment. We then tried to apply online for student loan but it says he needs bank account details. I was sure they'd ask that but looked anyway. Do we now wait until we hear from the bank? Do the loans take long? Will he be expected to pay stuff immediately (I mean fees and accommodation) or do we fill out the details for his child's bank account and hope we can change details at a later date. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

GoldenRuby · 17/08/2019 11:03

We used DS's child bank account details, then need to remember to switch the details with Student Finance when his student account gets approved.

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 11:04

You don't need bank account detail for student loan - we had ours sorted ages ago and we still haven't book the bank account in (waiting for HSBC too) just bypass it and carry on with application

TakeMeToYourLiar · 17/08/2019 11:04

Such find memories of the village. DH and I both lived there. As did the parents of our godson and our best friends.

Wish I could do it all over again!

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 11:05

book = put

GoldenRuby · 17/08/2019 11:21

@TakeMeToYourLiar which bit of the Village were you in? DS has got Willow in the lower village - he is pleased as they are 8 person flats and only 4 flats in the block, so somehow feels less intimidating for him than some of the bigger blocks.

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 12:02

We've put our accommodation application in, just got to wait now for allocation

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 12:21

We did fill the forms in without bank account details for now. Thanks.

I'm disappointed that when they ask for parents income they are working on almost 2 years ago. 2017-2018 income. Why do they do that? My husband retired last year, so his earnings for 2017/18 were way more than 2018/19 I assumed it would be the previous tax year. Not almost 2 years ago.

Bank and loan forms filled in anyway.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 17/08/2019 12:37

I was in the courtyard, but we had friends in willow. Lovely abd quiet

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 12:40

icanbewhatiwant

We had this - you fill in the student loan exactly as you have done - when you have the award you then fill in a form called current year assessment and they will ask you for earnings 2019/2020 (I know! bonkers right!) you then should get a new award

We had to do this and I helped 2 other friends do it and we all got revised awards

here is the link to the form you need

media.slc.co.uk/sfe/currentyearincome/how-to-apply.html

let me know if you need any more help - it seems complicated but we got there in the end

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 12:52

Thanks. What about tax year April 2018 to March 2019? that is the one I thought we'd be telling of. I just looked online and if we go on 2 years ago earnings compared to 1 year ago his loan is £4,000 difference. I have savings to give him if necessary. But that's a big difference.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 13:12

Juicy we live south of Norwich too 30 miles south.

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 13:22

Yes, we went through on the phone with them about the madness that they are now asking for a year we haven't earned yet, but that's what they said we had to do - you have to guess Hmm

When you reapply for second year (it has to be redone every year) they will then ask for 2018/2019

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 13:33

Notsorry. They are asking for 2 years ago.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2019 13:45

Notsorry I just looked at your link. It says fill out details 2017/18 if you think your income has dropped fill out 2019/20 form. What about the year 2018/19. They've missed it out completely.

NotSorry · 17/08/2019 13:54

you need the 2019/2020 - that is the correct form I promise

I have a pdf of the actual form - the one we and my two friends used

if you want to PM me with your email address, I'm happy to send it to you
