I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

@NotSorry that is so frustrating!!

I know someone up thread mentioned sending a parcel-how do the students get notified that they have one? And where do they collect?

DD had first little wobble last night... to be expected but still sad for her. I'm sure she will be fine in the morning...

NotSorry · 26/09/2019 08:37

Have checked today and it did go though after all - just didn’t get the usual page when you’ve made a payment, looked like it failed

icanbewhatiwant · 26/09/2019 09:18

@mumsiedarlingrevolta my son has had 3 parcels delivered from amazon. So far he's refusing to get them as it's been raining and apparently a long walk. I don't know whether he got any message to say a parcel is waiting though. I hope he doesn't leave them for long.

icanbewhatiwant · 26/09/2019 09:20

@NotSorry did you get a link or anything saying how much to pay for accommodation? Ds needs to pay it when the loan comes through. Is it easy enough to pay? He did go online and said he'd pay it in 3 instalments.

NotSorry · 26/09/2019 10:38

@icanbewhatiwant if he goes on the finance section it is on there now - when he goes to make payment he needs to deselect terms 2 and 3 and it will adjust to pay one term

icanbewhatiwant · 26/09/2019 10:50

@NotSorry ok thanks. I'll tell him. He is waiting for the loan to go in.

boys3 · 26/09/2019 23:05

I'm wondering quite how the central letter and parcel collection works. Granted it was a verrrrrrrrrrrrrry long time ago, but when I was at Uni post was delivered to each hall, same for Ds1 who graduated a lot more recently? Going to have to get round to sending DS2 something just to find out from him how it works.

GoldenRuby · 27/09/2019 06:32

My DS said they get sent an email to say they have something to collect. Not sure how long they keep it for before they send it back though, I think it may be only 10 days.

icanbewhatiwant · 27/09/2019 07:07

It says they get an email and have 14 days to collect. The post room is open post office type hours. 9am to 4.30pm I think. Then 2 hours on a Sat. No idea whether ds has collected stuff as he ignores my messages.

Itscoldouthere · 27/09/2019 08:07

@icanbewhatiwant how annoying that your DS is ignoring you, they can be tricky can’t they.
I’ve not heard from DS since our phone call on Tuesday, I did ask him if he want me to take him off the electoral role at home or if he wants a postal vote, no reply so I will chase him at the weekend as I need to get my form back.
Hopefully the lack of contact is due to having a good time, I think they should have just received their grants.

sluj · 27/09/2019 08:41

Must be having a great time with all that money then.
I haven't heard from my DS since Monday either Sad

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/09/2019 12:22

Oh dear re non-communication. If it's any consolation, DS has been in touch himself just the once because of his 'phone banking security number' issue which has now been compounded because he didn't bother to sign the 'proof of signature' form he should have handed in to the bank in the summer. Otherwise we know very little: not enthused by the societies on offer; probably joining the gym; has got to know about 10 people doing geography (that was on Wednesday); said he's going to the freshers' ball even though he doesn't know anyone with a ticket... All basically gleaned through closed interrogation questioning technique by text Grin.

@Itscoldouthere - 'grants' dates you! Wink.

icanbewhatiwant · 27/09/2019 13:24

Ds has texted to say he's finally collected the parcels. No thanks or any info about them or about anything else for that matter. I also asked if the loan was in his account yet, he said no.

CointreauVersial · 27/09/2019 13:53

DD1 still seems to be enjoying herself. Very little contact, although she told me they had a "Flat 2 Night In" last night, with cocktails and 50% off Domino's. Grin

And her loan arrived safely.

icanbewhatiwant · 27/09/2019 14:40

@Itscoldouthere have you heard how many lectures etc. they have for biology? I'm sure your ds was biology? When we looked at the timetable a week before he went there wasn't a lot on it. But it may have been added to since. I know weds there was nothing till 3pm. I just wondered how busy ds was.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/09/2019 15:13

Surprised that they've got lectures/tutorials on a Wednesday afternoon. Always thought that time was sacrosanct for sporting activities. The times they are a changing.

Missyelliottsaysso · 27/09/2019 15:23

Stalker mum alert!
If you go on the Student Union UEA there are lots of photos of some of the fresher nights out. They are public so I’m not being a total weirdo looking. None of my DD of course...she said she saw photos being taken and avoided them at all cost.

Missyelliottsaysso · 27/09/2019 15:23

Facebook

icanbewhatiwant · 27/09/2019 16:25

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I'm fairly sure it was weds that his lecture was 3pm. But I might be wrong.
@Missyelliottsaysso I just looked at those photos, thanks. None of ds but it looks like they had fun.

icanbewhatiwant · 27/09/2019 17:00

Actually I didn't see all the photos. I think I've found ds in one photo at the welcome party. There's a lad in a pink t shirt at the very front of 2 photos with his back to the camera. I'm 99% sure it's him. No front shot though.

boys3 · 27/09/2019 22:33

DS2 not so camera shy, still seems to be enjoying himself from the pics - yes more than one :) - posted

Itscoldouthere · 28/09/2019 07:42

I see I’ve outed myself as an oldie, in my day I got a grant 😊
Just had a look at the photos, I doubt DS attended either event, his idea of hell, but god I would have loved it, they look like they are having lots of fun.
He did go to a comedy evening which is more his thing.
@icanbewhatiwant I did look at the Biology timetable, you could scroll on past the first week, I think there were 2 morning when they started later, but it looked like they were busy most of the time.
DS sent a message last night and said that proper lectures had started, but it so far they were going over A level stuff, he also had his first lab session, which he enjoyed.
He seems to be coping well.
DS1 is going down with freshers flu, probably due to too much partying and drinking in Bournemouth!

juicy0 · 28/09/2019 07:51

Thanks for the tip off about the photos, there are a couple of DD and she looks like she’s enjoying herself. Got a text at 5.40am to say she’d just got home from the welcome ball so guessing it was a good night!
She’s playing netball this morning but we are going to visit later today and I can’t wait to see her.
She’s been out every night this week so I’m hoping things may calm down a bit next week or she’ll burn out.

icanbewhatiwant · 28/09/2019 08:01

@Itscoldouthere thanks. We did scroll forwards to Oct but there still wasn't much on it. I think it didn't include lab time at that point. I haven't heard anything about lectures etc. I'm glad they are being kept busy.

sluj · 28/09/2019 19:04

Finally had a video call from DS2. He seems exhausted but declares everything as fun. He has found the Tesco Express and made his own dinner- two chicken kievs and gravy. No vegetables, not even potatoes.
He got back from the Welcome Ball at 5am and is off to the bar tonight, no wonder he is tired.
I'm happy to hear everything is going ok for him 😁
