Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

BBC is a solid set of results.

howwudufeel · 16/08/2019 11:22

Laniakea you may have already said this but does she have a place?

Laniakea · 16/08/2019 11:27

Data in schools does tend to be very very focused on GCSE

That’s true of dd’s school.

The science departments there are in a terrible state - they have incredible new facilities and no staff. They’ve always done better in humanities - English, history, philosophy are where all their good results came from. And maths of course!

Laniakea · 16/08/2019 11:32

Yes her firm took her in the end (AAB) - luckily they interview & she had done well (& they had places in clearing at ABB-BBB contextual). She got an A at AS & an A EPQ too.

Deferred entry so she’s starting next year.

I was quite chill about it all until this message this morning set me off again! Dh is at a job interview atm so I’ll divert my worry to that instead.

howwudufeel · 16/08/2019 11:38

She is a great position then. She will soon forget her A level results.

ShhhBeQuiet · 16/08/2019 11:39

She missed by one but they were completely uninterested as they had lots apply through adjustment

A couple of years ago one of my DC got a place at Sheffield Uni through adjustment. She always wanted to go there but was predicted lower grades than the course requirement so didn’t apply. It’s such a stupid system, there is far too much incentive for giving overly optimistic predicted grades.

Madhairday · 16/08/2019 11:45

Anyone else not had a confirmation email from the uni yet? Worrying myself here, despite it being clear on track it's confirmed!

Dunlurking · 16/08/2019 11:47

Good morning. I haven’t spoken to my dd for 20 hours now, since dropping her off for 24 hours of planned post results celebrations with her friends, with her the only girl in clearing (no thanks to Sheffield refusing her for one slipped grade by 4 marks). There’s an open day Tuesday at York, where she’s accepted a clearing offer, and I only know about because you mentioned it @FrameyMcFrame. She’s been ignoring every text asking if she’s booked it (although acknowledging and acting on others, such as putting in her accommodation application) I know Tuesday was going to be a day off work socialising with same friends again. She is also holidaying with same friends for a week in September. And these same friends all met their offers at Sheffield. AIBU to think she should go to the open day? She’s never visited the university. My parents gave ds £50 a month while he did his UG degree and were planning to do the same for dd but are suggesting her attitude to being with friends over everything else is not inspiring them to pay this money. Is it being controlling to say she has to go or no money?

stucknoue · 16/08/2019 11:47

Anyone know when the university gets in touch directly? When accommodation offer is confirmed? All felt an anti climax yesterday and she's worrying now because she's away until 6 days before term starts.

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 11:48

DD got a confirmation email from her Durham college this morning.

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 11:49

She has to fill out a questionnaire by 1/9 about likes/dislikes so they can allocate rooms.

stucknoue · 16/08/2019 11:50

Ps just got a message to say she's up and ready to go shopping!

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 11:51

Dun I'd back off.

Dunlurking · 16/08/2019 11:59

Thanks Benjispruce I think so as well but my parents are very academic minded retired Oxbridge graduates/teachers and fairly rigid in their thinking. Don’t want dd to lose out in their funding as halls will be more expensive than Sheffield. What is best for her peace of mind in settling in at York rather than Sheffield?

Fibbsdottir · 16/08/2019 12:02

Dun tbf she's done everything she needs to do. I think you should back off a bit. She's sorted isn't she?

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 12:02

I think your parents are being unreasonable. I wouldn't worry about York, I hear it's a great uni and certainly a wonderful city. If DD is against going to the day out for whatever reason, that is her choice. Do your parents need to know ? Wink
Your DD's commitment is shown by getting thus far.

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 12:04

Given she seems party girl, could you tempt her to visit York in the knowledge that there is (well, not really) reputed to be one pub for every day of the year in York?

I am confused as to what this going out is that you all refer to?! Grin

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 12:04

My DD has was out last night, is working later today and next few days before Reading festival. So long as she does what NEEDS to be done, that's fine with me.

Dunlurking · 16/08/2019 12:05

Thanks Fibbsdottir and Benjispruce I’ll drop mentioning it.

Fibbsdottir · 16/08/2019 12:06

My dd wouldn't bother with the open day as she'd be worried that she'd hate it. If she's in, shes in.

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 12:07

That's a very real possibility Fib, she's going now so that's that and it's a top university. Relax.

Dunlurking · 16/08/2019 12:08

Piggywaspushed before we knew there was an open day I offered to take her this w/e but she responded by saying she’d seen the city (no idea when), just not the uni.

Dunlurking · 16/08/2019 12:09

Ooh good point Fibbsdottir!

TravellingSpoon · 16/08/2019 12:10

Is anyone else's DC still waiting for clearing acceptance? DS sent his application to Derby at 3pm sharp yesterday and still nothing. This is not helping his AS anxiety fuelled mind.

TravellingSpoon · 16/08/2019 12:10

I agree that I would back off Dun. You don't want to annoy her and if all her friends are going to Sheffield she might be feeling a little raw.
