Thought it may be nice to have a 2020 support thread, everyone welcome! (maybe Oxbridge posts could be kept to the Oxbridge thread).

Varied offer for DS Newcastle - AAB or ABC if firmed.

In other news, he has pressed a random button somewhere and his Track documents are now all in Welsh...

wineoclockthanks · 15/10/2019 21:46

Great news that the offers are coming in.

Just watched Martin Lewis' video about Student Loans (on the MSE website). Very interesting and definitely worth a watch.

aibutohavethisusername · 15/10/2019 22:01

Wine do you have a link?

oneteen · 15/10/2019 22:15

Well done to everyone with offers...I'm liking these lower offers than the standard tariff.

Serin · 15/10/2019 22:23

Well after waving DS1 off to uni last month DS2 has sent his application off tonight.
Birmingham
Durham
York
Bangor
Keele
Quite a diverse mix there! Blush

nodtik · 15/10/2019 23:03

@Serin good luck to you DS2 then, three of your DS' choices are the same as mine, he's applied to:

Durham
Birmingham
Bangor
Exeter
Edinburgh

Which course for your DS? Xx

HesMyLobster · 15/10/2019 23:21

Ooh nodtik congratulations on the lovely Birmingham offer!
What subject is that?
Birmingham is my DD's joint favourite and she'd be over the moon to get a reduced offer from them.

nodtik · 16/10/2019 05:50

@HesMyLobster thanks for the reply, Birmingham is indeed great - DS would be very happy there I think.

He's applied for Sports & Exercise Science - what about your DS, which course?

nodtik · 16/10/2019 05:51

Thank you

HesMyLobster · 16/10/2019 09:46

nodtik DD has applied for psychology. I think it's so oversubscribed that reduced offers are unlikely - it was certainly never included in the notorious unconditional offers of the last few years.

Favourites are Birmingham and Leeds, but both have AAA as the typical offer. A reduction of even one grade would take the pressure off considerably - DD's A prediction in Chemistry is far from secure. Although hoping her predictions of A* in both Psychology and French will help balance that out.
You just never know how much flexibility there might be. .

MillicentMartha · 16/10/2019 09:50

HesMyLobster DS asked (for maths) at Birmingham, and although their standard offer is AAA they were happy to accept A* AB so long as the B wasn't in maths.

snozzlemaid · 16/10/2019 13:14

Regarding Birmingham, we're off to their open day on Saturday.
Does anyone have advice on the best way to get there?
We're driving up from Cornwall and staying Friday night but can't work out where is best to park on Saturday?
Would there be somewhere good we could park and get the train which I believe stops at the uni?
Any advice would be great thanks.

oneteen · 16/10/2019 14:14

Snozzlemaid - whereabouts are you staying? Selly Oak station is just a two-minute hop on the train away (the station has parking).

DD is beginning to warm towards Bham Uni too...although Warwick will definitely me her firm choice.

We cant make open day because she is off to Japan on Saturday..but I used to work near the Uni so know the area well.

oneteen · 16/10/2019 14:23

Well, I actually thought that DD may well be able to get her UCAS application off this week... all ready to go now but HOS seems to have done the disappearing act till after HT (beggars belief), they have two weeks off at HT anyhow!

snozzlemaid · 16/10/2019 17:36

oneteen We're staying somewhere along the M5 about an hour away from Birmingham as we're driving up Friday evening.
So anywhere in Birmingham for us to head for to park would be great thanks.

snozzlemaid · 16/10/2019 17:41

Dd looked at Biomed at Warwick but didn't like the modules so much there. They do some environmental stuff and she doesn't like that. It's all about the human body for her.
So far her favourite is Exeter but she has high hopes for Birmingham as she's really excited by the modules they do there.

oneteen · 16/10/2019 18:39

Snozzlemaid - I'd aim for Selly Oak station then easy route in from M5 onto A38...just one stop on the train.

snozzlemaid · 16/10/2019 19:24

Thanks will take a look at that.

HesMyLobster · 16/10/2019 19:55

Snozzle I didn't go to the Birmingham open day, DD1 drove DD2 but as it's not in the city centre it was easy to get to by car, and there was plenty of parking on site.
We only love about an hour away but they had no problems at all getting there and back. It was a Friday too.

Oneteen that must be so frustrating, hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer.

Serin · 16/10/2019 22:19

nodtik DS is applying for comp science,.
DD went to Bangor, it's a pretty and gentle uni, she loved it.
DS's first choice would definitely be Durham but it is his aspirational!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 16/10/2019 23:48

Serin My DS has gone for a variety of straight comp sci courses and some that combine cyber security. Im a bit worried as he isn't studying Further Maths or Pysics at A Level.
