Thought it may be nice to have a 2020 support thread, everyone welcome! (maybe Oxbridge posts could be kept to the Oxbridge thread).

I wouldn’t have thought so, snozzlemaid, don’t most of the med schools interview before giving offers?

oneteen · 08/10/2019 23:40

@Snozzlemaid I think those DC getting offers are the Oxbridge applicants who have applied elsewhere as well ...although by the sounds of it a lot of Uni's are just sending out holding emails because the deadline is not until January.

snozzlemaid · 09/10/2019 07:00

Thanks. That makes sense.
Dd seems calm about it all. I'm keen for her to get her applications in asap.
I know it's not first come first served but it feels like she needs to get on with it when I hear others getting offers already.
Will try to be patient Confused

sandybayley · 09/10/2019 07:43

@snozzlemaid - yes DS1 is applying to Oxford. Bristol seems quite transparent in their approach, if you have the right grades (actual and predicted) they will make an offer.

wineoclockthanks · 09/10/2019 08:10

@snoozlemaid - DS has also applied toOxford and so his application needed to be in by 15th October hence it's so early. Most of his friends haven't even started their PS!

AChickenCalledDaal · 09/10/2019 08:31

... and for what it's worth, DD's application is in and she hasn't had so much as a sniff at an offer Grin. Just lots of acknowledgement emails with requests to register on an assortment of applicant portals, which is cheesing her off as she hoped the form filling was done for a bit!

MillicentMartha · 09/10/2019 09:24

@snozzlemaid You do know the deadline for medicine applications is also 15th October the same as Oxbridge?

snozzlemaid · 09/10/2019 12:36

Yes thanks. Dd is not applying for medicine or Oxbridge so no urgency for her application.

Hoghgyni · 09/10/2019 14:11

Your DD may be in luck though Snozzle as Bristol and Exeter are keen to woo good applicants at an early stage.

MillicentMartha · 09/10/2019 19:05

Sorry, snozzle, misunderstood your earlier post!

MillicentMartha · 10/10/2019 21:51

We’re off to Manchester this weekend. The last open day so he can crack on with finishing his PS and submit his UCAS form soon. No real urgency for it, I don’t think. As far as I can tell most universities just give the standard offer for maths so long as you are predicted high enough.

oneteen · 10/10/2019 22:03

@MillicentMartha - Enjoy Manchester....Dd is not pushed to send her application yet, although it would be good to get it out of the way...I would like it gone next week but not holding my breath...I think the acceptance rate is very high on DD's course so she's back into laid back mode.

More partying going on at the moment with lots of 18th's

MillicentMartha · 10/10/2019 22:23

DS doesn’t really get invited to parties, too geeky. He’s more a D & D sort of guy. He’s happy, though.

Ironoaks · 10/10/2019 22:52

MillicentMartha
I also have one of those. Smile

HesMyLobster · 10/10/2019 23:04

My DD is currently at a party but has just sent me a snapchat of her UCAS confirmation email!
We weren't expecting school to attach reference etc until after half term so a bit of a surprise! Shock
It does feel good that it's done. To me! DD said it made her feel sick.
She suddenly seems very aware of the importance of this year. I'm just hoping I can get her to see that it won't be the end of the world if she doesn't meet her (self imposed) expectations.
Lots of talk about plan b sometimes working out for the best etc
Without making her feel like I don't believe she can do it.
Supportive without adding to the pressure she puts on herself.
I think it's going to be a tough few months . . WineWineWine

oneteen · 10/10/2019 23:10

DD - geeky too - but borderline - manages to fit within the two tribes...likes to party but knows her limits... :-)

oneteen · 10/10/2019 23:17

@HesMyLobster - My thoughts exactly - I want DD to aim high but also want her to be happy without any pressures.

I suppose overall I want DD to enjoy the course she chooses, expand her knowledge, make nice friends but most importantly be happy and comfortable within herself.

HuaShan · 11/10/2019 06:01

Two offers came in for ds last night, Warwick and Nottingham. Such a confidence boost and relief as he has 2 risky choices ( O and Imperial)

wineoclockthanks · 11/10/2019 07:53

Exeter have made an offer too, same grades as Leeds. These are his favourites (after very long shot O) so really pleased.

Now all he has to do some blinking work - who decided that A'Levels and 18th parties should be in the same year?! Grin

aibutohavethisusername · 11/10/2019 09:50

Wineoclockthanks which subject?

MillicentMartha · 11/10/2019 12:23

HuaShan, great news! DS3 will have Nottingham on his form, but is avoiding Warwick because he doesn't want to follow his DB!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 11/10/2019 12:26

Can I join? DS already has his results but is taking a gap year and applying this year. His UCAS form is done but college are being a bit slow at sending it off 🙄.

I’m assuming that he will just get acceptances or rejections immediately? And was also thinking that maybe this would be done more quickly than offers? But I may well be wrong!

He’s applied to Newcastle, York, Nottingham, Bristol and Cardiff for psychology - has met the required grades for all of them.

aibutohavethisusername · 11/10/2019 13:04

Hi LaBelle and welcome. Hopefully your son will get offers quickly. I’m not sure about some unis where they hold off until January though. Maybe others will know more than me.

wineoclockthanks · 11/10/2019 16:43

@aibutihavethisusername

He's applied for PPE.

nodtik · 11/10/2019 17:02

Thought I'd update Smile

Son has just had first offer from Exeter, AAA, but as he has an AStar in EPQ already, they will lower to ABB if he puts them first or second!!

He's over the moon 😊
