Thought it may be nice to have a 2020 support thread, everyone welcome! (maybe Oxbridge posts could be kept to the Oxbridge thread).

@nodtik - what lovely news to start the weekend!

nodtik · 11/10/2019 18:10

@HugoSpritz Exeter is actually his second choice, Durham is his first!

But he is delighted!! And it's set him up for the weekend!

Hope all is going well with your son? Xx

nodtik · 11/10/2019 18:11

@sandybayley thank you .... it is a lovely start the weekend - he is SO relieved xx

DD has her first offer, from Queen Mary. BBB which is lower than the ABB on their website.

Ironoaks · 11/10/2019 18:57

Congratulations to those who have received offers today.

wineoclockthanks · 11/10/2019 18:59

@nodtik that's great news? Well done to your DS Smile

wineoclockthanks · 11/10/2019 19:00

And @aibu's DD

Ironoaks · 11/10/2019 19:05

Is it my imagination, or do some of the universities seem to be sending out decisions on Fridays?

Probably too early to start seeing a pattern, but it would be interesting if there is one.

HuaShan · 11/10/2019 19:56

Congrats nodik and aibu . Great start to the weekend.

Pepermintea · 11/10/2019 21:31

Congratulations to all those who have got offers!

DS/'s application has finally been sent from school! Smile

aibutohavethisusername · 11/10/2019 22:32

Great news Mint

DS submitted his UCAS form today, was very chuffed to get an offer already from Manchester - AAB. Which is their standard offer for the course he wants to do. Manchester will probably be his insurance uni so good to know that has come in already.

snozzlemaid · 12/10/2019 07:44

We're off to Reading open day today. Then Birmingham next week. I'm hoping Dd will get her applications in soon after that.

MillicentMartha · 12/10/2019 08:11

We’re off to Manchester in a minute or two. Will kill two birds with one stone as DS1 moved there at the start of September for his graduate job so we’ll be staying with him tonight! 😍

Ironoaks · 12/10/2019 08:22

tumpymummy
Same day service! Great to have his preferred insurance in place.

nodtik · 12/10/2019 08:57

Seems like there is a lot happening for our offspring!! It's an exciting time and it's great reading the updates from all.

No more open days for us, kind of missing those as it's really interesting to have a nose at what universities have to offer!

Happy weekend all xx

KingscoteStaff · 12/10/2019 16:42

Manchester is the only one that DS has applied to ‘sight unseen’, so the Offer Holders Day (if he gets one...) will be a real help.

oneteen · 12/10/2019 16:56

I was hoping that DD would get her UCAS application in next week but very much doubt it now...I know reference is done but I think she's still messing with her PS. She's off to Japan next Saturday and she has a couple of topic exams this forthcoming week - so I can't see it being done until after HT.

FrenchyQ · 12/10/2019 18:52

Portsmouth open day today...DD liked the uni better than Plymouth. Shes submitted her UKAS form this evening, just got to wait for her reference to add his bit

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/10/2019 12:35

Did the last open day yesterday - Southampton, which got a very positive response despite the rain! I'm hoping this will lead to finally getting the PS done this week.

MillicentMartha · 13/10/2019 16:18

Well, we loved Manchester! Really good feeling about it. They don’t hold offer holder days (for maths at least) as they interview before offering. DS3 has liked Birmingham, Nottingham, Southampton and now Manchester all pretty much equally. My favourite is Birmingham but mainly because it’s fairly close and I’m thinking about all the pick ups and drop offs. Smile If Manchester was a bit closer it would be my top choice though. Loved the city.

snozzlemaid · 13/10/2019 17:10

Dd really liked Reading yesterday. It's lower entry requirements than others she's looked at so she's going to add it as one of her choices.
The guy who did the Biomed talk was very inspiring and interesting to listen to. He went into this pretty much for the same reason as dd. Good at science and teachers suggested medicine but didn't want to spend all day with patients. Dd is just like this - she's so intrigued by the human body but isn't the sort of person to enjoy working with patients.
Last open day for us next week at Birmingham.

oneteen · 13/10/2019 17:19

Glad weekend visits went well...I was pleased to hear that UCAS cut off point at DD's school is 4th November means DD can stop procrastinating and finish it off.

Hoghgyni · 13/10/2019 18:54

That's early oneteen. Either They've got a lot of early entrants out of the way already and want to get the rest out of the way so they can enjoy Christmas early or they have a lot of very decisive students. Most of DD's friends plan to dither until the bitter end.
