Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

Prescriptions free until 19 as long as in ft education.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/06/2019 08:11

LIZS but does that up until they're 19 and at university, or only if they're still studying A Levels or equivalent?

The government websites don't seem very clear about what happens twixt finishing A Levels and the next stage (unless they've walked straight into a more or less full-time job straight out of school).

Our child benefit is stopping on 2nd September. Younger Dc then gets the higher amount.

ZandathePanda · 18/06/2019 08:16

Apologies that should read the child benefit for older Dd stops.

LIZS · 18/06/2019 08:20

Includes uni. Ds had prescriptions either side of his 19th bday - first was free, second not. He was a uni student.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/06/2019 08:25

Thanks for your insights, Zanda and LIZS

I have an older DC so can tell you that university students can continue to get free prescriptions / dental / optician's treatment IF they apply for help with healthcare costs under the Low Income Scheme. From memory the form is called HC1. It's a bit of a hassle to complete the thing, but once it's done they are then sent back an exemption certificate which last for a year.

Like all benefits, the applicant has to have less than £16k in savings, but I assume that's the case for the vast majority of students.

HTH.

sluj sorry to ask if this is obvious but where can you find the clearing lists for uea and other unis please?

ifonly4 · 18/06/2019 10:58

DD's last exam yesterday, straight into her break and is currently sat at airport to join a friend abroad. She's a music scholar at her school, so is committed to being there for celebrations early July though. Leaver's Ball will be at end of celebrations and parents can go!!

Shimy · 18/06/2019 12:13

@juicy0 Look here UEA Clearing

Scroll down if you don’t see it immediately.

juicy0 · 18/06/2019 12:14

Thank you shimy

Shimy · 18/06/2019 12:18

A lot of other universities haven’t opened their Clearing database yet, but it’s all meant to kick off from 5th of July, you can check here for all Unis UCAS CLEARING.

DS slept 10 hours straight last night, said it was the best nights sleep he has had in ages. Has a barn party tonight, then another one on Thursday.

It is such a relief to not have to hover over him, when you think about it we have been hovering for four years now GCSE and A levels. We can now enjoy the time we have left with him which is so precious.

FairNotFair · 18/06/2019 12:43

… so now Edexcel is pulling its Further Maths paper this Thursday and replacing it with a different one - apparently it was also compromised at the same centre that's already identified in East London. There's an update on their website which also outlines how they're going to approach marking the 3rd maths paper. DS doesn't seem impressed.

Shimy · 18/06/2019 12:43

Just wondering if I’m the only one who has no idea what results DS might get Hmm. His results have been so inconsistent he could get anything. Anyone else?

justasking111 · 18/06/2019 12:44

Fair - what a mess...

FairNotFair · 18/06/2019 12:45

update from Edexcel

FairNotFair · 18/06/2019 12:46

and update about Further Maths paper

FairNotFair · 18/06/2019 12:47

I live in East London (although DS is at school in SE London) so I'm wondering where the breach took place

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2019 13:08

There are rumours swirling about the school but I shan't say on here. It will come out in due course.

sluj · 18/06/2019 13:21

I'm a bit confused by the Edexcel statement. They say they are going to look for anomalies with performance in the 3rd paper to see who might have cheated but then they also acknowledge that people are saying paper 2 was exceptionally hard. On this basis, surely everyone will have done better on paper 3 so how will you spot the cheats?

FairNotFair · 18/06/2019 13:30

sluj I can't quite see how it would work effectively - maybe if the candidate is consistently terrible throughout the paper but aces the two dodgy questions? Or some of the candidates from the leaky exam centre perform disproportionately well? I imagine you'd have to be a stats whizz to spot the cheats!

ifonly4 · 18/06/2019 14:17

Shimy, probably like many on here I'm a bit nervous. DD's unis require AAA, ABB, she done two lots of mocks and got ABB (A in different subjects each time). Her recent practice essays in the B subject, have been assessed as A, so I reckond we could be looking at AAA-BBB. Neither of her unis will be clearing and her subject isn't offered anywhere below ABB, so we're stuck if she gets BBB>

juicy0 · 18/06/2019 14:35

shimy it's so hard to know isn't it! DD feels like her exams have been a real mixed bag in terms of question style and the content tested. Apparently only 25% of the bio syllabus was actually covered by the three papers which makes it difficult to compare to either of the mocks she did.
She's hoping for A*AB but would be happy with ABB.
luckily her offer is unconditional which means she won't have to spend the summer worrying, but she still wants to get the grades that reflect the effort and work she's put in.

Baytreemum · 18/06/2019 14:42

There is now a podcast from Sharon Hague of Pearson making a statement about the Edexcel maths A Level fiasco. She says they may remove the last two questions from the results now. Not sure how this is going to make it fair when the whole paper was available online from the night before (at least). She did say they will be looking at individual performance however, although how they will do this for 60,000 pupils I'm not sure.
