Clearing and student loans

How does it work? Dd not applied to uni for Sept but is now saying that if her grades are good, she may apply through clearing.

Do people just apply for a student loan during the clearing period, or do we apply now in anticipation of that (given she may not take it up?)

Think you need to wait for an offer as that is required on the system for tuition fees. Might be worth enquiring of potential unis now and I think you may still be able to apply earlier than results day.

Phone up Student Finance. I had a query about requirements ages before DD applied and they were really helpful.

Give them a call, I don’t think you need an offer to apply as they are open for applications long before the majority of students have received all their offers.

Do not wait until clearing, their payments may be late and that puts a lot of pressure in the first term, when they are already stressed trying to find their feet at uni.

If you want the loan for September start of term you need to apply by 24th May. You don’t need to have a place to apply you can just put where you hope to go down.

If you don’t apply until clearing you won’t receive the money until well into term!

Yes, and that could be, IME up to 2-3 months after the term starts so very stressful to the student has no other income to survive on.
