Interview for Masters in Social Work

I've got an interview coming up for a masters in social work as a mature student. I'm bright but have terrible habit of waffling in interview circumstances. Any tips gratefully received!

I had an interview for the social work BA a few weeks ago. They ask very situational questions, so tell me a time when you encountered prejudice, what did you do?. Why do you want to be a social worker? Etc They want to see your values and that you know what your getting into. I tend to waffle too and to be honest I just told the interviewer to shut me up if I went off track, which broke the ice so to speak. Good luck!

Brill! That's helpful. Thanks.

Do you know the format for the interview? Lots will include a presentation. Some will also have other exercises such as group discussions or written exercises. They should tell you all this in advance.

Think group discussion and then individual interview is the format.

Take your time in an interview. I always repeat the question in my head, think about it and then answer.

For the discussion, try and speak early on. Be polite and respectful but don't be afraid to disagree with people. Demonstrate good listening skills as well as speaking.

Look out for lecturers hanging around before everything starts. I noticed someone at my group uni interview day and I'm sure they were listening in when people were arriving and chatting.

Ooh that's useful to know.

Can i take notes in interview?

We were allowed to take notes and I know other unis do things differently but at mine everything was taken into account, how you dressed, how you interacted with others and even how you emailed the admissions office.
