Applying for accommodation at York

We're just looking through the options.

My son wants to self cater and be in the centre of west campus and as far as we can tell there is only one room option available for him. Does this sound right?
There are 9 colleges!!!

All the others seem to be catered or on east campus!
Anyone with any experience of this?

I have a DS at York and he went self catered on the western campus. There were lots of options (in fact very few catered). The website is very good, have a look at all the colleges and different levels of cost.
In fact York have so much halls accommodation that students can stay in halls for second and third years if they wish.

as far as i can see his only optioons are derwent and halifax

all the others are coming up as catered or on east campus or in halifax

do you mind me asking which college your son is at please?

Are there no rooms in Alcuin ?

Where is his course based as its a PITA if your room is in one campus and lectures are in the other

his cousin was in alcuin and says it's too quiet for him

Alcuin is only quiet if you stay there the whole time ....
Most students are fully capable of wandering to main campus or other colleges or even the city centre.

DS was in Halifax which is on the perimeter but only a short walk or bike ride. He moved out to rented for his second year and back to Halifax for his third year.
Halls and flats are what you make them. Friendship groups form around flats, subjects and outside interests. I really don't think which hall you get makes a difference.

halifax felt very out of the way.
glad to hear it was ok because the form says he need to put down seven options!

Well it's not right in the middle but it's only a few minutes walk! Would only be a problem if the student had mobility issues.
It would be out of the way if all lectures were on the eastern campus, that depends on subject.
DS got his first choice, that was 3 years ago and they have more accommodation now.
