Midwifery interview

Hi all! I will be studying midwifery in September and I have two interviews coming up. :)

I was wondering you have any unique and interesting interview questions for a future Midwife? I've had a look online but the questions seem to be quite generic- I want questions that'll help me think outside the box e.g scenarios etc (doesn't have to be specifically tailored to midwifery).

Thanks x :)

Do you mean you've got your place and these are interviews for other things, or are they interviews to get the uni place?

  1. Tell me about the one experience you have had that most strongly reinforced your desire to be a midwife.
  2. What would you say is the greatest challenge a hospital/community midwife has to face regularly?
  3. During a delivery, who is the most important person in the room? Why?
  4. What will you find most rewarding about being a midwife?
  5. A woman with a past history of opioid addiction is having a difficult and painful labour. You know there will be a significant wait for an anaesthetist. The woman is screaming and demanding fentanyl. What do you say to her?
  6. In the month leading up to a birth you develop significant concerns that the mother's partner is physically and sexually abusive. What do you think it would be appropriate to do?
  7. Give me an example of a situation where you have gone out of your way to help or support someone with whom you didn't already have some kind of personal relationship.

For 5 & 6 it's unlikely anyone would expect an applicant to know the correct answers. The point is to see how you approach the problem and what kinds of attitudes you display.
