decorhate November 😱😱

LIZS · 14/03/2019 20:54

If she prefers A she should firm A. They will consider her case before passing on to B, although if there is no immediate decision on results day she can ring then. She can still ring if B accepts her, then ask them to release if A reconsider.

ZandathePanda · 14/03/2019 20:55

Too late - don’t reply to my last post! Dd has put Uni B as insurance! Argh I am sure it’s all going to be fine ConfusedGrin

blametheparents · 14/03/2019 20:59

So - as if DS has let his accommodation offer expire!!!
So hacked off with him.
It’s very easy to say it’s his problem, but it won’t be when he’s in crappy accommodation and doesn’t like it.
Hopefully he can sort this out tomorrow ...

ZandathePanda · 14/03/2019 20:59

Thanks LIZS fingers crossed it’s all hypothetical anyway as Dd is predicted AAA. Although UCAS say you have entered a contract with Uni B, B would hopefully release a student who didn’t want to go there!

ZandathePanda · 14/03/2019 21:13

blametheparents keep repeating ‘its not the type of accommodation that matters, it’s what you make of the experience’ - my personal favourite line from an accommodation talk, after Dd said she needed an en-suite. She’s never had one before!?!

blametheparents · 14/03/2019 21:31

@zandathepanda - I am going to remember that line!
I’ve had a glass of wine and calmed down a bit now! Still annoyed at him though!

BringOnTheScience · 14/03/2019 21:59

DC1 has tonight received an email from Manchester inviting them to join the FB group for offer holders in their subject ... but they haven't received an offer yet! Hoping it's just a glitch and the offer comes through tomorrow.

mushroom3 · 15/03/2019 00:07

My DS found out from experience with Swansea you do get good accommodation from your list if you put them insurance. It's because they have built so much new accommodation on Bay Campus! It's easier it seems to get Bay or Student village accommodation if you apply for it than Singleton. Someone said further up that it's a quiet city. I don't believe it is, there are a huge number of clubs and societies for students and a vibrant club scene along Wind St. Where it's not good, if you like to see high profile bands on tour, they tend to perform in Cardiff (rather than Swansea), which is about an hour away by train or coach.

FrameyMcFrame · 15/03/2019 07:07

Zanda my DS also has ABB offers for 3 unis

Wondering whether to put 2 of those on rather than put her actual insurance choice on which is BCC (non Russel group)
She's done well in recent mocks.

Fazackerley · 15/03/2019 07:17

Thanks mushroom! That's helpful. She's actually really keen on Swansea. If Bath makes her an offer she will feel duty bound to firm them as it's more.prestigious, but I think Swansea is the uni she liked best.

Fazackerley · 15/03/2019 11:10

Apparently unis don't have to make an offer or not until the beginning of MAY

I thought it was end of March Sad

Itscoldouthere · 15/03/2019 11:39

Fazack what!!
They said 31March in an email to DS
Don’t think he’ll wait till May Shock

Fazackerley · 15/03/2019 11:48

one of the student body has told her they don't have to make a decision until May 2

They can feck off if they are that disorganised.

MarchingFrogs · 15/03/2019 12:41

Applicants have to respond to their offers (i.e. indicate their firm - and insurance, if required - choice) by May 1st if they have received responses from all their universities by March 31st.

Universities have until May 2nd to respond to all on time applicants (i.e. those who applied by January 15th). Some may set internal deadlines, of course.

ZandathePanda · 15/03/2019 18:09

Framey difficult isn’t it. In the end Dd only liked two universities enough to put them on her ucas form anyway but we didn’t expect them to offer the same. She really wants only one now.

Justanothermile · 15/03/2019 19:21

DS has similar offer grades for all his applications last year, due to his subject choice, which was Maths. His firm and insurance were the same because they had to be really.

The difference I think is what happens if you don't meet your offer grades on results day. Your firm might still take you, or your insurance might have more leniency.

We weren't asked for any deposit on accommodation until results day last year.

I've also not been asked for any parental income information following Dd applying recently even though she's had an acknowledgement. I'm assuming this is because she's only applied for the minimums available, but that's still different to last year, where I had to confirm this was the case.

Also - just for information - you have to apply annually for student finance, so DS will also have to do it again.

justasking111 · 15/03/2019 19:31

Faz. as someone else has said if they are that reluctant to make a decision I would go elsewhere. Gawd knows how disorganised over the three years your DC is there.

Justanothermile · 15/03/2019 19:33

As it happened, DS dropped a grade, albeit in Chemistry rather than Maths or FM and Lancaster still took him.

MarchingFrogs · 15/03/2019 21:22

I'm assuming this is because she's only applied for the minimums available, but that's still different to last year, where I had to confirm this was the case.

DS1 applied to SFE for the first time in 2015 and did not apply for the means tested element of the loan - we weren't asked to complete any declaration of any kind in relation to his application. (Unless DH had to do something and it was so stressful that he has expunged the memory).

ifonly4 · 16/03/2019 11:36

ZandathePanda, I had that conversation with admissions at Birmingham on open day. I was told if you miss your grades and they don't want you, there's no negotiation, so I guess it's a fairly typical scenario.

DitheringDan · 16/03/2019 14:54

Mushroom, do you mind my asking whether your DS was involved in music societies at Swansea (as in playing rather than going to watch)? DS is worried that there might not be enough performance opportunities- or that the music there might not be particularly good, at least. That makes him sound a snob but he’s been a part time paid-to-play musician for some years now and would really miss being part of a good group.

Shimy · 16/03/2019 15:24

@Dithering, whilst your waiting, I don't know if this will be of any use to your ds
Music at Swansea

Shimy · 16/03/2019 15:24

you're

DitheringDan · 16/03/2019 15:41

Thanks, Shimy! He’s already applied for a music scholarship but (apologies to anyone whose child was involved) wasn’t over impressed by hearing the student orchestra playing at the weekend. He’s used to being the slightly substandard newbie in a talented semi-professional bunch.

Good to see that there are plenty of other musical opportunities though
