Wow that last thread filled up quickly. Well done to your DS, Piggy!

ComeOnGordon welcome :-).

Laniakea - I would take it as a sign that Southampton isn't the university for your DD particularly if they say a two-six week wait and it's been longer (but has it if you exclude the two week Christmas break?). Maybe she will hear this week?

That is very poor form from Southampton. Are you tempted to phone them up ?

Considering how quick most other unis are, I don't think the slower ones reflect on the fact that they could lose applicants.

Still no news from NTU at my end, but this is nothing like Southampton proportions!! Their email acknowledgement promised a 1- 2 week turnaround. It's now 11 working days, (assuming normal office hours) so the clock is ticking!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/01/2019 14:04

I reckon with four offers under their belts many students would be tempted to give up on the fifth unless it's the one they're really keen to go to - I would if I were in their position.

Gosh where do you find the 'turnaround' offer time-frame details? Not sure I've clocked those for any of DS's choices (although only really applicable to the B'ham one now).

Welcome comeongordon.

We're in the position that DD applied two months ago and has had two offers, both from Scottish unis. We previously understood St Andrews held off making offers until 15 Jan, so that was a surprise. Said it a hundred times before, but we know Birmingham should be any day now. Apparently Durham don't offer on some courses until 15 Jan and Warwick were offering in March last year for the course. Every course and university has it's really good points and negatives, so good to get those offers in as DD has no firm first choice.

LoniceraJaponica · 07/01/2019 14:19

This is why DD withdrew her application to Manchester. They haven't offered, invited to interview or rejected in spite of DD already meeting their A level requirements. She preferred Newcastle anyway, and firmed it over the weekend.

Manchester's loss.

ComeOnGordon · 07/01/2019 14:24

It’s crazy how variable it is from Uni to Uni. Makes it difficult to make a decision if you don’t know when or if you’re going to hear anything.

Laniakea · 07/01/2019 14:53

Are you tempted to phone them up ?

Yes! She's adamant that I don't, horrified by the idea. She has the direct email of the course administrator, I'm going to work on getting her to email him. I'm most irritated that the admissions office haven't replied to her email from last week - even a sorry no information atm would be preferable to silence.

titchy · 07/01/2019 15:28

Give them a chance - some won't have gone back to work after Christmas till today!

waterplease · 07/01/2019 15:29

@Laniakea that's really bad of Southampton! I'm sorry for your daughter, how frustrating! I can imagine it's even worse as it's 2 courses she applied too. I would probably chase them up on it tbh, like you said- even a no info as of yet email would be nice of them so she's doesn't feel forgotten!

Definitely not the best first impression on the unis front!Shock x

waterplease · 07/01/2019 15:30

Out of interest, how quickly did your daughters/sons/you hear back from unis once you'd put the application in?

I sent all mine of New Year's Eve and have had acknowledgment from all unis but heard nothing else yet! I'm getting more antsy and anxious by the day!🙈😣

Thanks :)

waterplease · 07/01/2019 15:31

*on! Not of 😂

waterplease · 07/01/2019 15:32

@titchy that's true actually, I didn't think about that! Just assumed everyone would be back on the 2nd.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/01/2019 15:34

waterplease there are a fair few of us whose DC didn't apply until a week or so before the Christmas break. It would seem that offers came in - from some universities - within a matter of days.

I wouldn't get too anxious yet (although appreciate that it's difficult playing the waiting game) - NYE was only a week ago, and as titchy just commented some of the universities' admissions teams will have only returned to work today.

OP posts:
titchy · 07/01/2019 15:48

Virtually all universities are closed between Christmas and New year so applications submitted then won't have even been downloaded from ucas until staff are back at work!

waterplease · 07/01/2019 15:55

@titchy surely if they've acknowledged it that means they have the app? Or is it just an automated message? X

waterplease · 07/01/2019 15:56

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 thank you! Argh I'm so nervous and stressed over it!😂😫

titchy · 07/01/2019 15:58

When did you get the acknowledgement? I'd guess the applications were downloaded last Wednesday when staff are back and an automated email sent then. I'd be surprised if you had acknowledgements on NYE itself, unless it was from UCAS.

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 07/01/2019 16:01

LoniceraJaponica Dd is about to do the same regarding Manchester as she also has her grades. She is about to accept an unconditional from Liverpool her first choice for psychology and is really looking forward to the offer day at the end of the month.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2019 16:17

OP, the turn around time frame is often on the website in the admissions bit. In the case ot NTU it was in their acknowledgement email. First uni to acknowledge , ironically!

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2019 16:24

Every time I do this, the offer comes in! I think they are spying on me!

NTU just in : BCC which is their standard offer. This is from Track so they may email slightly different details later : the UiF details don't seem to appear on Track.

ifonly4 · 07/01/2019 16:39

Piggy congrulations. So glad you haven't had to wait longer for offers.

DD just got her Birmingham offer in, slightly reduced to AAA. Course is so different to her other two offers, but much closer to home and she likes flexibility of it.

waterplease. - many seem to get offers within days. DD first was 11 days, second approx, second offer five weeks and third today just over two months. All of DD's choices are quite high ranked unis, so I suspect they take decide.

RedHelenB · 07/01/2019 16:42

LoniceraJaponica my dd1 is in her 2nd year at Newcastle and loves it. Good choice!

ifonly4 · 07/01/2019 16:43

Anyoned think I'd had a drink with the amount of typos on my last post. Honestly I haven't, we're getting DD ready to take back to school so lots going on.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/01/2019 16:55

Piggy, well done to your DS for his NTU offer - is that all of his offers in now?

ifonly4 do you think your DD will firm B'ham then?

Why don't the UIF offers show on track?

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend great news for your DD. Sure it's such a relief when they know where they will be going and can start to plan accordingly.

OP posts:
LoniceraJaponica · 07/01/2019 17:00

Now that DD knows where she is definitely going to university we will do some "bottom drawer" shopping over the next few months. Better than the last minute, jam packed rush to Ikea.
