New thread, I hope it's okay to start one.

Good luck today for those still waiting for interview news, which includes us.

Congratulations to those already with dates.

OP posts:

Does anyone know if there's an exact date by which time you hear the result of Cambridge interviews?

There did seem to be when DD got her offer, but you're right the 'official timeline' seems a bit vague www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/applying/dates-and-deadlines

However there seems to be some more specific dates on college websites eg Emmanuel says jan 14:
www.emma.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduates/applying/timeline/

So maybe if you have a search on the one your DC has applied to it may say.

Biscuitburglar · 30/11/2018 23:37

I think it’s 14th January for Cambridge.

PantTwizzler · 01/12/2018 22:23

Wow what a relief Max!

Frenzy of interview prep and have-we-even-got-time-to-panic-shop here. (Polo neck to cover interview neck-flush is on the current wishlist...)

Lililili · 02/12/2018 00:17

Phew DrMax what a journey!
Good luck to everyone. My husband and DD are driving across to Cambridge tomorrow and her interviews are on Monday morning. She isn’t doing any preparation which is making very nervous! Says she is prepared.....

SpiralArchitect · 02/12/2018 11:33

Good luck, everyone!

DH and DD have just left for Oxford. She's a bit anxious, but determined to make the most of the experience.

Hubbleisback · 02/12/2018 12:07

Good luck to all your DC - I was in your boat this time last year. I just want to stress to everyone that there is no telling post interview how well you have done. I know there were shocks for people who believed they had done well and also for people who thought they had performed miserably like my DS. Don't let it ruin Christmas - what will be will be.

Heffapotamus · 02/12/2018 12:12

Hubble is absolutely right. You can't tell how things have gone - tears don't necessarily spell disaster.
Good luck all!

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2018 12:26

My DD's description of her first interview sounded like a train wreck, she nearly walked out of the door at that point, but the second one was much better. But she was pretty much resigned to having blown it. She was pooled - but like most students who are pooled loves her college.

HingleMcCringleberry · 02/12/2018 13:18

Echoing all the good lucks, and all the good advice. The people who came out of interviews feeling really pleased, I didn’t see again at my college.

The interviews are supposed to be challenging, and it’s fine not to know the answer - work your way through the question, and be sure to vocalise your thoughts, so they can assess your approach to something unknown. If you don’t speak, the interviewers have nothing to mark you on. This may be hard for students who like to answer only when they’re confident they’re correct, but do try.

goodbyestranger · 02/12/2018 13:32

Hingle I agree it's hard to tell but I think it's fair to say that those in tears after train wrecks can either get in or not get in and those who thought they'd nailed it do also get in as well as not get in. I'm unconvinced that thinking you've done really badly in fact means you've done well, or vice versa.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2018 15:04

that is true. If they do come out feeling confident, then that's ok.

If you want central central then the Turl St Kitchen (in Turl St opp Exeter College) or the Vaults at St Mary's (next to the Rad Cam/ Brasenose).

Dustylaw · 02/12/2018 16:24

Also Browns Cafe in the Covered Market.

LIZS · 02/12/2018 16:28

Good luck to dc and parents alike for this week.

Dustylaw · 02/12/2018 16:32

Another message to give is that just because they don’t get offered a place doesn’t mean that they didn’t do well or that the tutors didn’t like them or rate them. The sad fact for all of us is that there aren’t enough places for all the candidates that the tutors think are good enough.

Sunndowne · 02/12/2018 17:25

Good luck everyone. Can be very stressful for DC. Just try and be yourself- tell them! No real way of knowing if you've ticked their boxes. My DD thought 1 interview terrible and 1 really fine.
Good luck again

Bakeandyarn · 02/12/2018 17:41

Good luck to everyone, completely echo what has already been said. DS ‘s first interview was “not great, got really tough at the end”, felt he’d nailed the second one, (like most candidates at his first choice college he was pooled on the last day) and loved his final interview at the college he is now a student at. There really is no way to call it!

Not now Kiara.

LittleSpace · 02/12/2018 18:08

That's what I'm telling ds Dusty.

Hubbleisback · 02/12/2018 18:52

Coleoptera we really like to hang out in Café Nero above Blackwell's bookshop. Looks out on Sheldonian. Always students working in there and very relaxed.

goodbyestranger · 02/12/2018 19:59

No idea why I replied to Hubble's post on the other thread! Blackwell's is nice but only sandwiches for lunch.

Lumpy76 · 02/12/2018 21:12

So DD is onsite in Oxford! More nervous and upset at staying away overnight than the interviews tomorrow!! 🤞🏻 for everyone! Xx

Puzzledmum · 02/12/2018 21:47

Good luck to all DC for the forthcoming interviews! I’ll be taking my DD and will have a nice coffee with her before dropping her off at the college. Just think this time next week, we’ll all be at home relaxing with 🍷, as all will be over! Smile
