Piggy a cheer rings out across the country!

worriedunimum · 13/12/2018 19:07

@Decorhate
Thank you! Yes it has really taken the pressure off DD, already.
She intends to live in Uni accommodation and with her various diagnoses will be able, for the entire course, to also get whatever "adjustments" they can offer, that she ( and we, and Uni ) think will help her be as independent as possible.
And yes tbh it does seem a win/win offer - she gets an unconditional offer from the Uni she really really liked, it takes the pressure off her HAVING to perform in the A levels to get in, AND she will get a bursary if she does get the grades. Which is a HUGE incentive for her to continue to work hard ( not that she needs an incentive, but ...)
Its an excellent offer all round, but it does seem a bit too good to be true and then I saw all the angst about the " rise of unconditional offers due to finance driven reasons "

Must not google stuff!

worriedunimum · 13/12/2018 19:15

'Piggy well, there was a certain amount of jigging around and squealing, at least :)

worriedunimum · 13/12/2018 19:17

And of course I have NOT said any of this to DD! She did ask if it was " something to do with her diagnoses ? to which I replied I had no idea ( cos I really do not) and she deserved it for all her hard work and effort.

worriedunimum · 13/12/2018 19:20

Having read back a few pages, Piggy you must be SO relieved!

readsalotgirl63 · 13/12/2018 19:21

worriedunimum - the UCAS website does offer a lot of useful information and advice. I would suggest you check the UCAS website for something called adjustment - this is like clearing but for those who have done better than expected.

It was not something my dd used but I do recall reading the section on the website and I don't doubt other Mnetters with more experience of it will be along to advise. good luck to your dd.

Aurea · 13/12/2018 19:23

My son has just received an unconditional offer for law at Glasgow. Smile

worriedunimum · 13/12/2018 19:25

Thank you readsalotgirl63 I'll look!
Congratulations to your DS Aurea

readsalotgirl63 · 13/12/2018 19:35

Congratulations Aurea - that's fantastic news.

Parmaviolets13 · 13/12/2018 19:44

I've applied for 5, haven't heard back from any! How are people getting so many offers and I've had nothing? 😞

twosoups1972 · 13/12/2018 19:45

Aurea that’s fantastic, is he going to take it?

twosoups1972 · 13/12/2018 19:45

Don’t panic parma when did you apply?

Everything went through and I got the track email on the 6th December. I've applied for a course that'll need an interview and is tough to get into but it's so disheartening seeing so many offers. Nevermind, I shall keep refreshing my emails! 😊

Parmaviolets13 · 13/12/2018 19:47

Applying as a mature student. 27, doing the access course

DragonflyPink · 13/12/2018 19:53

Hey! I have been reading with interest.

@Parmaviolets13 - which subject?

I am 19 and doing the Access course :)

@twosoups1972

I'm not sure whether he'll take it as it's third on his list at the moment (after Oxford and Edinburgh). It's a very good option though....

Parmaviolets13 · 13/12/2018 20:05

Oldandgold - you're right I hadn't even noticed it was only 5 days! 😂 I just need to be patient

Dragonfly - I'm doing it to do midwifery. What about you?

ifonly4 · 13/12/2018 20:50

Aurea - congrats to your DS. Even if it's his third choice, it'll give him something to think about ahead of hearing from Cambridge and Edinburgh.

Parmaviolets13 - don't panic, it depends on a lot, uni, application process and number of applicants.DD's first offer was 11 days after application, her second 42 days after (the latter of which we had understood wouldn't be decided on until after 15 Jan). She does know a another decision is due within two weeks as they state their timescale clearly. However, I do know one of the courses she's applied for issued mid/end March for 2018 and I think she'll be waiting on that decision.

DragonflyPink · 13/12/2018 20:52

@Parmaviolets13 - I'm doing the Science one. I want to study Biological Sciences :) good luck with yours!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/12/2018 06:32

Parmaviolets13 agree with what's been said - depends on the course, the university and whether the departmental bods who make the offer decisions are around to make them. DS applied on the 7th and has had two offers but they came as a surprise (as his very experienced Head of Sixth Form said categorically, "You'll not hear anything until the new year now."). I would be surprised if his others are now on pause until 2019.

Good luck with your applications DragonnflyPink and Parmaviolets13.

MarchingFrogs · 14/12/2018 07:36

she gets an unconditional offer from the Uni she really really liked

That is the important bit. There seems to be an automatic assumption in some quarters that any university offering uc / uc if firmed is an institution desperate to fill its places, that would only ever be any applicant's last choice.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/12/2018 09:13

An unconditional offer from one's preferred choice university is surely the best possible outcome, isn't it?

twosoups1972 · 14/12/2018 14:52

Is there any meaning in how long it takes for offers to come? I've read so many posts about people receiving offers in only a day.

Dd received an offer from Swansea very quickly (the day after applying) but hasn't heard from the others yet. Does it become less likely to get an offer the longer you wait?
