Russell Group are the research intensive universities which are seen as most prestigious. They are often excellent for traditional subjects, but not the best for creative and vary for innovative subjects.

madmum I know it’s easier said than done but just take a breather - you seem very stressed out! I wouldn’t worry about ringing universities. He’s well within the deadline - some people submit as early as September, others wait until July but they’re all considered equally. Get him to press send on his form (which means it goes to the school and they can add to and edit it) and then find whoever coordinates UCAS to let them know. Then I’d give them a few weeks to sort references and send off, if it’s not done a fortnight after he’s sent it then I think start chasing them.

And the number of applicants per places isn’t as scary as it sounds - the rate of offers to applicants will be much better. I remember DD came back from Warwick’s open day with a figure like that, but in reality many of those would have an offer but wouldn’t put Warwick as first choice. Unis always give our way more offers than places Smile

Not July - I mean January!

Decorhate · 15/11/2018 18:31

Anyone else got a dc who has to be constantly reminded to check emails, etc? Ds has "accidentally" deleted one email & overlooked another in his spam folder, both with details of offer-holder days. I have had to be "that" mother today, phoning admissions departments...

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2018 18:39

My DS has 570 unread emails...

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/11/2018 18:54

Ds got a reminder yesterday - MISSING DOCUMENT - just some form that had to be signed and sent back, by last Thursday. Fortunately it did say in the email that this won't prejudice your application Grin

Monkey2001 · 15/11/2018 21:48

DS was invited to a free mock interview session with medics at Bristol Uni through school and ignored it. "I thought it was about that course you wanted me to do".......

dancingdirty · 15/11/2018 22:05

Three days after application went in DD has two offers, just waiting on the other three now. Top choice Sussex not responded yet bit hopefully we will hear soon

Decorhate · 15/11/2018 22:10

Is your ds applying to Bristol Monkey or is it just local to you?

PancakeMum6 · 15/11/2018 23:52

Oh my - DD is the total opposite! She actually saw her Durham offer on track (rather than being alerted by email) because she was checking so obsessively.

PancakeMum6 · 15/11/2018 23:53

Well done to your DD dancingdirty! Fingers crossed for Sussex soon.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/11/2018 08:59

@dirtydancing Sussex was the slowest to come back to DD with an offer-about 10 days-while the others were all within the first couple of days!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/11/2018 09:05

@keyboardplayerXXX that's fab!! Well done your DD
Sorry not to see you at UEA applicant day!

dancingdirty · 16/11/2018 11:37

thanks all.

we think the school have messed up her predicted grades. She is doing a Health and Social Btec as well as an A level. She was predicted Distinction Distinction, however the school have out DD on her UCAS and one of her offer says DD*

Her teacher has told her that grade is never given out in that subject.
why would they up the grade on UCAS from what she is predicted?

Assume if she doesn't meet the DD that offer no longer stands!!
Nightmare

dancingdirty · 16/11/2018 11:38

that should say offer is DD

dancingdirty · 16/11/2018 11:38

god D star D star
my star isn't working!

dancingdirty · 16/11/2018 12:14

So my DD has spoken to the head of 6th form who said she put a higher grade so they will look at her quickly. Not to worry as they will probably take her anyway.
I am fuming. Why couldn't they use her actual predicted grades so we at least know that offers were achievable

Decorhate · 16/11/2018 18:49

Ds has had an offer from his 5th today. 3 weeks since the application went in. Such a novelty after the months it took dd (who was applying for medicine).

Monkey2001 · 16/11/2018 19:48

@Decorhate Bristol is our local and he is determined to go at least 3 hours away!

Laniakea · 16/11/2018 19:59

I think a long wait would be too much for my nerves - well done to ds Decorhate.

dd just got an offer from Cardiff :) she's pretty pleased - it was the last minute impulsive application & she didn't really expect to get an offer!

Cardiff & Liverpool were both ABB & Bangor AB. All are a grade lower than their advertised grades which is nice for dd but it's still all about Southampton for her - she's applied to two there - so she's still pretty anxious.

Monkey2001 · 16/11/2018 20:20

Good to hear lots of positive news!

Decorhate · 16/11/2018 20:23

Has your ds got any interviews yet Monkey ?

OP posts:
Aurea · 16/11/2018 20:30

After all my stress about offers, DS has now got himself a law interview at Oxford! A huge achievement for a non-selective, state-schooled pupil from the north of Scotland. 😊

Piggywaspushed · 16/11/2018 20:32

Amazing!!

Well done him!

Laniakea · 16/11/2018 20:34

Aurea that's brilliant Grin
