How long to do uni drop off?

Taking dd1 to uni on Friday. Journey will be 3 hrs each way. I was expecting to leave early morning and be home early evening. Is this unrealistic? So many friends have stayed over night with their kids that I'm now wondering if I'm rushing off. I was expecting to help her unload, find her room, sort out her room a bit, maybe lunch then go home and leave her to it. Thoughts?

Up to you if you are happy to do 2 x 3 hr drives on the same day, but you are right not to hang around too long whilst there. Help them unload, have a bit of a poke about in the kitchen or grounds to satisfy your own curiosity and then leave.
We used to stop for a big 'brunch' before we got there - again, avoiding crowds around the university.
I personally (if space allows) would take some basics with you and not get in the mass crowds in the local supermarket on the arrivals weekend, but it is useful to set them up with some toilet rolls, and a few things like coffee / a few tins / some pasta to start them off.
Don't hang around for hours though.

She's there safe and sound. Unloaded, helped unpack then lunch before we left. Would have gone straight off but only 20 started yesterday so place was bit deserted. She seems happy. Will be a bit easier when everyone else turns up for freshers
