Going back to study, Can I survive?

I am seriously contemplating going back to uni at the grand old age of 38 to do either nursing or Speech Therapy. I am hoping to qualify for a bursary. I gained a degree back in 2004 (from what I understand I may qualify for healthcare courses?) After being a SAHP with H working (before we separated) I have struggled to get much over minimum wage jobs and I feel stuck.

But I'm wondering how I'll manage financially. I have 3 children of school age and am separated. I have a small savings pot for emergencies (£7000 or so) but not really anything else.
Will I be eligible for tax credits or childcare?

Has anyone done this and survived?
