Access Course

I am wanting to start an access course with aims to becoming a midwife. Has anyone done the access course and could give me an insight of what the workload is like and what sort of things you study? Thanks

It might be worth trying the further education board. There seem to be a few prospective nurses & midwives there.

I did an access to nursing course and found it really helpful. This was over 15 years ago but the aim was to get you into uni, the rest you learn whilst on the course. Most access colleges have an agreement with the local unis that they will automatically interview you so from that perspective it’s worth doing. I had to do it as I’d been out of study for over 10 years. All the best

I did an access course 5 years ago. It's good and actually is a bigger workload than first year of university so if you get through that you'll be absolutely fine doing the degree

Double check with the university you are intending to apply to regarding acceptance of access courses, specifically what modules need to be covered and requirements for science based GCSEs and English and Maths. Midwifery in particular is very popular, around 7-10 applications for every place at both my local universities, be clear around expectations for additional requirements such as WEX.

I just finished the access course in June Im not going to lie its hard I almost dropped out 4 times I have 2 young kids and found ur so hard to do the assignments it's the hardest get I've ever done however I stuck at it through many tears and completed the course and in the end it was worth it. Also bare in mind because of childcare I had to do the course 2 nights a week so it was harder cramming all the work into 2 nights rather than Mon to fri 9 till 5
