A Level Results Day

Hi If UCAS does not update first thing before the school opens for result is it a bad sign that the offer has been missed.
Good luck to everyone awaiting results :)

I got mine at 7am the morning of

beautifulblueballoon · 14/08/2018 07:49

hello all, can I join you. I have also got the joy of both GCSE and A level results this year!(as I did 2 yrs ago, and will have every other year for the next 6 years!)
DD1 insurance offer is also the same as her firm choice, also she doesn't really want to go to insurance uni. We are hoping she has got the grades obviously , but have had a look at some of the clearing options currently listed to come up with some back up plans. This is my second time with A level results, luckily ds1 got what he needed so all very straight forward. Keeping everything crossed for dd1.
The stress is really building here as the big day looms closer. Good luck to all.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 14/08/2018 14:04

Another one getting worried now (and also a A level/GCSE summer of stress) DD keeps shutting down any conversations with one or two word answers. Just sorted a student account out for her, trying to figure out how to get the free railcard. Having a look at the uni’s in clearing and all the ones on her top 5 are still there.
Fortunately or not, her favourite was the lowest offer so no back up plan here. I’m hopeful that because so many courses are on the clearing list, she should get something decent.
Just discovered that school isn’t open until 9- what’s the point in hanging around, let’s crack on (good or bad)

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 14/08/2018 14:05

Also am definitely going to use the #SoFucked hashtag if it goes pear shaped

Onesunnydayiniceland · 14/08/2018 14:42

A levels and GCSEs next summer for us, but expecting an AS this week and a language GCSE taken early next week so not as stressful. Getting stressed already though for next year as DD1 wants to do a super competitive course for which she needs A*AA and she is so relaxed. Personal statement due first week back and she still hasn’t started... Good luck to all DCs expecting results this week and next

toomanytolist · 14/08/2018 18:03

DD tells me that UCAS tweeted yesterday that Track would update from 8am on Thursday and not before!

bevelino · 15/08/2018 07:44

My triplets get their results tomorrow. Same subjects at 3 separate schools. They are totally chilled but my nerves are starting to shred.

Xenia · 15/08/2018 08:30

Good luck to the triplets and everyone else. This was us last year (although twins not triplets)..... After our 5 all being through it I do think in the end things work out perfectly okay whatever the results so no need to get too upset if they aren't what you expected although it seems awful at the time (I even remember my own results day in 1979! - we were on holiday in Scotland and I have to be driven to a payphone where I called the school and our deputy head gave me the (good - thankfully) results)

BalloonSlayer · 15/08/2018 08:41

Can I join? I hardly slept last night.

As others have said, it will be OK, there are plenty of spaces in clearing and somewhere will take him and he will love it there but aaaaarrrrgh!

It's so hard knowing that if it does all go wrong i can't just swoop in and sort it all out as I did when they were 5 - all i can do is support and advise.

I feel like the horse-whisperer at the moment. Easy, easy, boy . . .

3catsandadog · 15/08/2018 08:44

I can't believe in 24 hours we will know. I have some Nytol for the ready tonight but not sure I should be taking them with the palpitations and sweaty palms that I have developed this morning!

We were in this position last year with DS so thinking of you all. He needed a re-mark and his grade went up in a subject module where it's practically unheard of, so anything is possible. He took a gap year and starts at his first choice uni next month.
GCSE results for DD next week- fingers crossed for everyone xx

LooseHipsWobbleShips · 15/08/2018 09:43

DS was waiting for results this time last year, with the added anxiety of new linear exams in all four subjects. He dropped one grade by one UMS but still got his first choice and has had a great first year. Whatever happens celebrate their success, they will (mostly!) have worked so hard.
We're waiting for a result in a language A level this year for DH who took it for fun, as you do!
Good luck all.

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 15/08/2018 15:06

Good luck for tomorrow everyone. Our school opens at 7:30 so we will have results before UCAS opens. Just keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

Cyclingpast · 15/08/2018 15:11

So, what do you all consider "acceptable" or "good" grades, generally? B?

elena7475 · 15/08/2018 15:16

What ever needed to move to the next stage of life 🤷‍♀️

Cyclingpast · 15/08/2018 15:17

Yes of course elena :-), but if you don't even know what the next stage is? What's average?

MargoLovebutter · 15/08/2018 15:19

I really don't like to think of any grade as 'good' or 'acceptable' because it depends on the person who took them. Some DC are never going to achieve a B, but that doesn't mean that a C or D isn't acceptable for them and a good grade for them to have achieved.

A good or acceptable grade is one that either reflects the amount of work that the person taking the exam did, or one that they got damn lucky and managed to achieve, because they are bright and good at exams seriously hoping for the later in DS's case.

It also depends to some extent on what they want to do with their A levels. If they are looking to do a course that requires 3 Cs or the equivalent and that's what the young person achieves, then surely that is good - unless they are idle and did fuck all for 2 years and just coasted through and plan to do the same at uni!

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 15/08/2018 15:40

I'm now at the feeling thoroughly sick stage, I've eaten my body weight in carbs to try and keep the ick feeling at bay.

Mine needs 3 A's to get her first choice. She turned down a reduced grade as her insurance of BBB. She does have an unconditional as insurance but she's changing her mind.

Is it too early to have a tot of something alcoholic? Wink

Xenia · 15/08/2018 15:46

Acceptable totally depends on the person. What is a massive achievement for someone even if CCC is acceptable and AAA for someone else. My twins got the grades they needed to meet their first choice offers for their Bristol places last summer. However even if they had not they worked hard and it would have been fine with me. In fact our mother used to give us a present for exams before the results came out (for effort not the result itself which is a nice principle).

busymummy3 · 15/08/2018 16:05

3cats make it 4 years or you may have university degree results then a level results!
Know several people who have all 3 -degree then a level then gcse.
We have had the a level results followed by gcse result scenario it's really not as bad as it seems. Good Luck

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/08/2018 16:25

I think any grade that gets a student onto the next course/job they want to do.

I've celebrated with students from the school I teach at when they get an E because they've struggled throughout the 2 years and just wanted to pass. Equally I've commiserated with students who narrowly missed the A they needed to get into their competitive first choice uni (some of them still get in even with a near miss, others go to their insurance uni or go through clearing)

beautifulblueballoon · 15/08/2018 16:27

just got in from work. countdown now till tomorrow! DD is distracting herself trying on dresses to wear when she goes out (hopefully celebrating!) tomorrow night!!
I'm also wondering if it is too early for gin!
DDs school opens at 7am which I think is good as at least we will know early. Im sure I will be awake from about 4 anyway! With ds1 we were both up at 4 drinking coffee!

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 15/08/2018 16:35

Do the teachers know by now. My DDs chemistry teacher lives up the road, maybe I could walk up and down and hope to meet her, if she smiles it's good, if she avoids my eye it's bad?

MrSlant · 15/08/2018 19:26

I agree MsAwesome, as long as the grade fits the 'plan' it's the best grade ever. I just told DS that if he gets accepted into his first choice uni tomorrow his A level results will be the most important and then least important things Grin

Got GCSE's next week too (seems to be a popular club!) but I can't see DS2 not being allowed to sit his chosen A level courses so the pressure is off, DS2 is just excited and curious to see the grades he's got. Already passed maths and English so it's a nicer week all round.

Woodenhillmum · 15/08/2018 19:45

Belvino , fellow triplet mum here +1 sibling. We survived A level results last year but my three are very different and definitely felt pulled in all directions . I do have 3 all in the same university town now though which I would never have anticipated.Good luck tomorrow
