Failing a resit

Hi, I am currently doing a degree. I do not necessarily need it for my field of work, but it would help, and also look good on my CV. So I would be happy with a third.

I have so far managed to fail two modules from year one and need to resit these over the summer. One module is practical and must be passed in order to progress.
I'm just wondering what happens if I fail again?
I will be starting my third year in September if all is well.

Ask the uni. I know for medicine there's no compromise and you have to leave if a module is failed second time. Other courses might be different though, I would keep talking closely to your tutor as your attitude and their perception of your efforts could form part of the decision to pass you or not if you are very borderline.

I had to repeat the year. Just the modules I failed.

I’m really not sure a third looks good on a CV. Usually if you must pass, you must pass. They can ask you to leave.

A third may not be the best but I work with dogs, and do not need a degree or even any particular qualifications. I also wouldn't put the grade on my CV just the degree title.

The practical consists of getting a dog to various commands and the trouble I have is that my dogs are rescue dogs from abroad and it has taken years to build up trust and too much 'attention' like one-to-one training makes them anxious, and therefore they don't perform the tasks as well as a confident well adjusted dog would.

I think I might have to borrow a friend's dog.

A dog degree! God, mine was super boring by comparison (and also, by extension, my job).

SugarIsAmazing · 30/06/2018 17:20

It might be less boring but the pay is rubbish Grin

Depends on your university regulations, so you should take a look at them. In my university, that would be it, you'd be declared an academic fail, maybe offered an exit award, depending on how many credits you had passed. If you haven't completed your second year, you'd probably get nothing from my university, but every university is different, so you should really check the academic regs for yours.

To be honest, if you fail a module (or two) twice and have no significant mitigating circumstances, then it's not the degree for you. Hope you pass your resits!

Thank you - I hope so too!
