Study Leave for A levels

Hi My dd has been told that there will be no study leave before her A Levels. She is very self motivated and is aiming for A*s and is now worried that she won't be able to do her best. I know I would have struggled to pass my exams without study leave! Are other people's dds and dss getting study leave for A Levels or is it a blanket ban? If they are getting study leave when does it start? DD has come home very despondent today saying school was pointless and she would have got so much more done at home...

We don’t offer study leave at he college I teach at. A lot of subjects haven’t finished content yet and a lot of students are not as motivated as your dd. She will need to study in spare periods and at home.

I would rebel. I can't quite see what's to stop a self-motivated student simply taking study leave on her own initiative, once the course is complete. I would support mine in doing that for sure. No study leave would irritate me enormously, for GCSE as well, not just A2. Mine have always had study leave including DS4 who did the new linear exams last year. I've also just signed the GCSE leave of absence form for DD4 who starts GCSE study leave in a couple of weeks.

If she and you are certain she will get better grades by being at home, then home she is. As long as they've finished the syllabus. Getting the best grades is more important than silly rules.

Ds starts study leave today. He is taking the ib and his first exam is 2nd May, but exams start on 27th april.
Ds prefers study leave to working at school as you can set a timer for past papers, but papers cannot be completed in a lesson block so not such great practice for the exam.
For igcses he did not have study leave, but if he wanted to stay at home I just informed the school he would be working at home. All content was finished and so much is the day was wasted with travel to and from school, lunch break, registration etc he was much more productive at home.

Talk to the school. Not sure about A levels but for GCSE my dd's school said there was no study leave, but actually did give it to a few students who were able to make a good case for studying at home. I would speak to the head of sixth form if you genuinely feel your dd would revise better at home.
