Investment Banking Internships....

....wasn't quite sure where to post this!

DS1 is in 2nd year at Manchester Uni studying Chem Eng.

He has decided he wants to go into Investment Banking ( apparently not as unusual a leap from Chem Eng as it sounds - lots of Maths involved!)

He is in the process of applying for Spring Weeks which could then lead to a Summer internship.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

SouthLondon its definitely the trading side he's interested in.

He's just got rejected by BNP Paribas but still has Goldman, BAML, Credit Suisse, CitiBank (and a few others whose names I can't recall?) in the offing.

I would agree if he can succeed in obtaining and being successful in an internship it'll stand him in great stead for a graduate programme.

Also, my banker friends always tell me theirs is a relationship business, as far away from "science" as possible, despite some attempts to convey the opposite. The stem graduates that do worse are those who don't understand it, and for example who don't understand that in many situations obtaining a rough approximation in 2 hours is better than spending 2 days to get a 99% precise answer. Some don't get it, because it's so different from their scientific training and background.

Oh, that sounds daunting!

DDs hugely intelligent friend works for NM Rothschild. There are slightly smaller very prestigious investment banks!
