Hopefully this is in time!

voilets yes please links to SR threads would be welcome here too, although DD did join the Oxford Offer Holders 2018 thread on FB last night and has contacted other subject and college people through that to share the next few months of stress with!

Hubble25 · 13/01/2018 19:04

Anybody else finding it difficult to adapt to the new reality??

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2018 20:26

I'm not sure. For me it's relief and happiness that dd has the choice now to choose where she would like to study. I don't really care where it is, as long as it's the place for her. Of course, I'm proud, but it's more being pleased for her, she loves maths more than almost anything and she now has some wonderful opportunities to be taught by some of the best people.

Yes indeed. But it takes a while for the news to sink after such a long and mentally exhausting process. So happy though!!

Hubble25 · 13/01/2018 20:45

*sink in

voilets · 13/01/2018 21:20

Regarding TSR, I didn't find one thread, I just trawled threads to find posts that would give my DD a broad perspective of the oxbridge experience. So no particular thread. I started with my DDs college thread and looked back over a few years.

voilets · 13/01/2018 21:24

Second that, it takes a true while to sink in what has been achieved. And also Wine cheers to letting them make the right decision for themselves, to not influence them away from what they feel in their heart proves to be right for them.

Well done to all those that were interviewed, whatever the result, they've had to really work to get this far with far more pressures than my school/uni days

Risotto301 · 14/01/2018 03:19

As my “Cambridge-mum-to-be” friend said, it feels so surreal! Although I always believe DS has the ability and aptitude to get into Oxbridge, I never want it myself and push him to pursue this difficult route in which hard work may not pay off and luck plays a big part!

I think DS wont be too stressed in the coming months for mock and AL as his CO from Oxford is not too high, he has achieved the A* requirement in Math and just AA in Phy and Chem to attain and complete AL F Math to meet the CO.

Dancingdreamer · 14/01/2018 11:02

My DD now gone down ill. I think she used up so much emotional energy waiting for the results, getting an offer and then finding that so many friends didn’t make it. We are so proud of her. She failed to get into any of the academic school options at 11 but has not let that hinder her ambitions. Instead I think it has driven her to want to succeed more.

Risotto301 · 14/01/2018 12:28

Dreamer, u have a dream-reacher DD!

DS got a fever last Wed on Oxbridge D day, still I’ll till yesterday! I guessed that’s part of the reasons why he did not sound as thrilled as we had expected about the offer. I wish he can resume normal soon!

HeyBells · 14/01/2018 13:09

DS has his offer through for NatSci at Cambridge. He needs A* in both Physics and FM as well as As in Chemistry and Maths, so still a big challenge to meet the offer. Exams can be so unpredictable.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2018 13:11

ouch Heybells, that's effectively 3 a*s plus an a.

HeyBells · 14/01/2018 13:56

Yep, though he did do better in his AS FM modules than maths ones. Also got a D in one of his mock modules, lowest mark ever, but said he'd had no time to revise what with interviews. He doesn't seem too worried fortunately...

toomanytolist · 15/01/2018 10:40

Yes I don't think mocks results are going to be too stellar here either! Maths should be ok but the more data-intense subjects like biology are going to suffer. But a nice feeling of normality and back to business this Monday morning after the rollercoaster of last week Smile

Dancingdreamer · 15/01/2018 19:14

Risotto - Dream reacher. I love that!

Dancingdreamer · 15/01/2018 19:38

Also can I ask a question please. Is it expected that students write to the admissions office of their college to say thank you for their offer after they have firmed on UCAS?

errmmm Confused I dunno!

goodbyestranger · 15/01/2018 21:03

No!!!! That would be weird.

goodbyestranger · 15/01/2018 21:08

Although that said, the very nice tutor at the college DS2 and 3 applied to did write to their HT thanking him for encouraging his pupils to apply to that college.

Redpeony · 17/01/2018 22:42

Hello all. I came into your discussions just before Oxbridge Offering Day, so it seems we have been through the same waiting, joy and dilemma of choices. I only joined Mumsnet tonight. :)

HesMyLobster · 18/01/2018 12:53

Hi Redpeony congratulations to your DC on their offer!
What subject is it and where?
And if there's a choices dilemma, where else have they applied?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2018 12:58

welcome to both mn and the thread redpeony! :) Its a rollercoaster isn't it!

OP posts:
Redpeony · 18/01/2018 17:03

Hi, Hes and OYBBK, it’s a rollercoaster Smile. Cambridge for Law. DD was pooled so wasn’t too keen on her allocated College. Her other offers are LSE, UCL, Bristol and Nottingham. Feeling a bit difficult to let LSE go at the same time. Perhaps the stay over night in March at her College will help her to make right decision. Hope your DC have looked forward and concentrate on the required grades now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2018 18:43

has your dd looked at Student room Redpeony? The subject of pooled colleges comes up quite a lot there and it seems that the vast majority come to love their college. I can understand though why when they have gone to a lot of effort and thought to pick one, then its very hard to consider another. Some of the colleges didn't really appeal to dd either.
