Oh no. Poor girl. Poor you.

fartyghost · 12/11/2017 17:19

Haff DD has a foreign student in her flat like that, he's nice when they see him but he keeps himself to himself. She's got some plans to share with a couple of other women she knows, maybe three others but I'm not sure.

Haffdonga · 12/11/2017 17:33

Blogwoman · 12/11/2017 17:55

Thank you. Don’t want to give details but she’s having something of a meltdown (quite a big one actually...); assignment must be submitted tomorrow too but don’t know that it will be

Haffdonga · 12/11/2017 18:02

Blog would your dd ask for a doctor's note and then ask for an essay extension? i do understand this could just prolong the stress Sad.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/11/2017 18:23

blog Thanks

She can only do what she can...its really early days i would like to think the university would be more caring than chastising at this stage

QOD · 12/11/2017 19:05

Thanks everyone for your go If wishes. Had a fantastic weekend and just put dd1 on the train. Was lovely to have a proper talk and best of all hugs! She showed me her first bit of dentistry work and we made our Christmas cake and it sort of felt a bit like Christmas come early.

HSMMaCM · 12/11/2017 20:14

RedHelen that's so lovely that you made the cake together.

RedHelenB · 12/11/2017 20:17

Traditionally we can't do it before ds birthday but did it a little early so we were all together to make the wishes!

tobee · 12/11/2017 20:28

Blog here’s another hand.🖐

Had DS messaging me in me in the night worrying. It’s very difficult, isn’t it?

Horsemad · 12/11/2017 21:06

Blog, sorry to hear about your DD; I really hope everything is ok for her. Flowers And for tobee too.

I spoke to DS earlier and he seemed a bit glum, really not liking his current module, worried whether he's chosen the correct course...
He seems to be drifting, not doing much exercise (usually very sporty).

I've asked him to try and get into a routine to up his exercise and also to get some vitamins in his system (very faddy eater, so poor diet) as I think both will help his mood.

It is horrible when they are so far away and we are unable to just be there.

HSMMaCM · 12/11/2017 21:16

Horse - exercise and vitamins. Are you sure you're not me? DD was peak of fitness as a dancer and is now doing no exercise. She joined the gym, but got a refund.

Horsemad · 12/11/2017 21:54

I hear ya HSMMaCM!

RedHelenB · 13/11/2017 07:44

That's a shame horse. It's been a big change for them all and it's so hard to suggest things when you're not actually there. Hope he finds done activity he enjoys.

Horsemad · 13/11/2017 08:54

Thanks RedHelen. It's down to lack of structure and late nights I feel; hence me urging him to get some kind of routine going.

He did actually make food from scratch yesterday, so a bit of chivvying might be helping... Smile

University sorts seems to be tricky. DS was happy to spend his Wednesday afternoons playing football, but discovered that though the first teams were selected on ability (not him!) the other seven seemed mainly selected by performance in the bar afterwards. He was lucky in that a boy in the year above that he knew from school invited him to make up numbers in a casual seven-a-side league. Then he discovered that others on his course enjoyed climbing, so they started going together, and still do.

DD in contrast is good enough to make a University team and it is pretty full on. The kit is expensive (blazers, jumpers and more) and training is four times a week, plus matches. She is playing a second sport, and was signed up for a 300 mile round trip for an away match. That and the need to cycle to training, which often means cycling to and from University as well, means she has retained her fitness. Others clearly think she is mad, and with work ramping up, I suspect some of it will have to give.

She has a slightly belated induction to her "medic family" this week. Nice in a way to do this after the initial fresher frenzy has died down. She has to bring along a copy of her Personal Statement, which is as full of boasty worthiness as anyone else's, so that will be embarrassing.

RedHelenB · 13/11/2017 10:17

Dd1 put a photo of the toast I did on Sunday and got a lot of envious comments! Think a lot at uni are missing their mums/ dads cooking!

RedHelenB · 13/11/2017 10:18

Not toast Roast lol!

AshleySilver · 13/11/2017 10:50

DD and some of her current flatmates are talking about living together next year, but have not looked at anything yet. They are planning on looking in January. Meanwhile, I have been on Rightmove students Grin

They have one current flatmate who is a full-blown racist. I was shocked by what she told me he said. My advice was to give him a wide berth, but I understand that it's not possible for her to avoid him entirely.

TheMightyMing · 13/11/2017 12:15

Visited DS at weekend - room was a tip but easily remedied. Rather worried that he becoming accustomed to my regular maid visits and home cooked meals . Still he's my only one I suppose.

Also if concern was him telling me that must've of his uni friends ( who went to the same school) are taking Ketamine - I was horrified and begged him not to follow suit . I'm pretty sure he won't - he's sensible and doesn't even get that drunk, never smoked etc. These are all boys from comfortable middle class backgrounds ( wealthier than us in the main we are very much w/c) and a good grammar school. Hmmm.

He's home this weekend for his birthday Smile

ono40 · 13/11/2017 12:30

Helen, I was getting toast envy there for a second - wondering just what I was missing on the toast front and how I could improve my own! Wink

Wilko has done me proud and I have a good selection of small Christmas-themed items to send DS in his parcel (plus some Percy Pigs).

DS and friends went house hunting on Saturday. He said he had seen a few dirty dives that looked like drug dens and he sent me a few pics of the one he said was lovely. All I can say is that the dirty ones must have been truly dreadful!

Ming, DS is deliberately not sharing next year with a friend from school as the friend is doing club drugs. DS girlfriend is pretty anti-drugs so I am sure she has more influence than me.
