I texted DS1 and had no reply. An hour and a half later DH texts him and gets an instant reply. Hmm

I might be allowed to go down and fetch his washing tomorrow but he can't talk at the moment because he's 'too busy'. Confused

Haffdonga · 26/09/2017 21:24

Yes, ds has had the sore throat and under the weather last couple of days too MightyMing. Inevitable really. I messaged him today to ask how he is and how lectures were.

Him: 'OK'

Me 'OK?'
Him: 'I'll tell you tomorrow'.
Me: Now I'm worried that OK is not good.
Him: Jesus Christ chill out woman!

That's me told. Blush

QOD · 26/09/2017 21:27

Dd has discovered that her degree (Diagnostic Radiography) also qualifies you to scan animals so she could ultimately move into work in a zoo or vetinary hospital
Day 2went well and she still wants me to meet her tomorrow as we both have the day off

I miss her

She is home this weekend lol as it’s a cousins party again 🙄😜

TheMightyMing · 26/09/2017 21:44

Haffdonga - Ive bought some vitamins. Still waiting for reply to my what's app message ! Hope your DS feel better tomorrow.

dahliaaa · 26/09/2017 21:48

DS STILL can't find the compartment for the washing powder - he reckons there DEFINITELY isn't one ...

bebumba · 26/09/2017 21:58

Ds said that his machines do not have compartments for powder. He has to put the tablet in the drum with the washing.

BestIsWest · 26/09/2017 22:04

DS is home this weekend as we are off for a family event. He has Monday free so we'll drop him off on the way back. He reckons the laundrette system is too complicated to think about involving cards, PayPal and tokens so he's bringing it home with him.

He's also had a sore throat.

HSMMaCM · 26/09/2017 22:04

I told DD just to sling the tablet in with the washing. That way she can't get the wrong compartment (if there even is one).

Strange that about the washing compartment - we couldn't find it when I was looking at their machines. Blush

The instructions said about putting it in the drum.

Must be the odd design!

bebumba · 26/09/2017 22:12

I have to confess I did doubt Ds but maybe he was right.

user1484040234 · 26/09/2017 22:27

Maybe they are special machines for student halls! My DS ended up putting a measure of liquid plus one of fabric conditioner into the drum!

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2017 22:31

I asked DD if she wanted to take any washing tabs/capsules, and she said that they either had to be the sort that went in a drawer or had to not... or be biological or ... not or something... I told her to ask one of her 'mothers'.Grin

And then I admitted to her that for my entire first year in halls I survived on handwashing ... I knew how to use my family's twin tub but clueless about automatics, too shy to ask anyone in the first week or two, then to embarrassed to admit to anyone I'd not done any washing yet.Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2017 22:34

Bung in the drum is probably lower maintenance and more foolproof I suppose.

BackforGood · 26/09/2017 22:41

dd has managed to find a drawer for the powder in hers...

lazydog · 26/09/2017 22:46

Proud of DS for having already done 2 loads of laundry. He was, however, moaning about the cost. With conversion from CAD$ I've worked it out to be the grand total of £1.50, including 60 mins of drier use!

I pointed out that I was pretty sure that I had paid more than that to do a load of washing in a launderette before he was even born... (I have a vague recollection of a 20p coin only getting me about 6 minutes of "barely warmer than your own breath" or "melt all your clothes" drying time...)

QOD · 26/09/2017 23:40

Urgh just had Dd on the phone sobbing again 😢
They think they’re so grown up and then they aren’t ☹️

tobee · 26/09/2017 23:49

Impressed that DS made himself chilli con carne from scratch tonight. He said it tasted good. But. He made enough for about 6. Also he burnt the rice pan. Which he’d borrowed without asking. Let’s hope the housemates like leftover chilli.

tobee · 26/09/2017 23:50

Oh, QOD, hope your dd feels better soon.

dahliaaa · 26/09/2017 23:53

Oh he must be right then Blush no drawer.
I'll be seeing him in a few days. Might get him some if those 2 in 1 capsule things and then he can just shove one in with the clothes. I never use those at home but probably easiest thing.

dahliaaa · 26/09/2017 23:54

Sorry about DD QOD hope she's a much better day tomorrow Flowers

MorvahRising · 26/09/2017 23:54

QOD poor DD. It must all get a bit much sometimes. They're exhausted and trying to fit in so much new stuff in every direction. I hope she feels better in the morning. There's nothing worse than knowing they're miserable and far away.

Re laundrette, I read in a freshers' mag in DS's welcome pack that you can download a laundry app which you can not only use to pay for a wash online, but it will let you know when a machine is free and also alert you when your wash is finished! I was Shock - so much for telling DS to save his change for the machine. What a dinosaur I am.

HillaryWinshaw · 26/09/2017 23:56

Sparklingbrook Why are you doing his washing? Isn't that part of growing up and becoming self-sufficient at university? I remember someone on my floor had her parents do her washing...she was teased mercilessly.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/09/2017 06:26

My ds has done all his own laundry since he was 14 so he'll be fine. Although I suspect his bedding won't be washed very often as I had to nag to remind him when he was at home.

Oldie2017 · 27/09/2017 07:15

At home we moved from powder to the plastic tab thing into the main washing drum when our plumber said the powder was clogging up the pipes so I suspect that and the fact it is simpler for students is probably part of the reason for those machines. I have no idea if my 2 have tackled washing yet. My older son (moved to his own house a week ago) says he has been doing loads of washing.

fairyofallthings · 27/09/2017 07:18

I've got no idea what mine is doing about laundry, maybe I'm just a terrible mother Grin

I hope those who are not feeling well/are lonely etc are better soon.

That sounds good about the radiography; it sounds like an interesting subject to study.

Mine is doing ok but i've suddenly really starting missing her. I suspect it's pmt related, that and some stressful moments coming up at work. Either that or I need to get a grip.
