Anyone else struggling with DC starting second year?

DD has just gone back to uni having been at home since May. It's not as hard for me as it was for her first year, but I still feel stupidly weepy.

Anyone else struggling?

Not yet but I may be in a weeks time!! DS been home since start of June, had a fab summer including a family holiday in US, I think it will hit me hard next Sunday.

He was going back and forth to uni city to work at weekends until late August, so we are used to him disappearing at weekends, but it's when he not here next Monday that it will hit me.

I take my dog for a long walk on a Monday whilst cleaner here, he has joined me during hols, DD only once for various reasons. Its been lovely having their company, even if DS does stride off ahead. DD back at college tomorrow, so last walk with him and then it will just be me and the dog again next Monday.

Maybe we need a thread for 2nd year mums?

I found my son and firstborn off for his second year harder than it was at the beginning of the first year, when I was so excited for him.

DD (and PFB) was in halls for her first year, which felt ok as it was a looked after envoronment. This year she is sharing a flat with another girl, and I guess feels like she she taking another step into adulthood, and away from us. All of which is good and planned for, but hard when it actually happens.

My son went back yesterday, he's been home since June so it is a big wrench.
He's transferred to Leeds from Lancaster as he was really unhappy at the latter, the course was great but unfortunately he didn't like the uni itself or the city.
He was in halls last year, I persuaded him to be catered and I think that was a mistake as he felt a bit isolated as there were lots of overseas students who had their own friendship groups.
This time he's gone into a small development with only 50 rooms, so I'm hoping he will make friends; there are five higher ed campuses in Leeds so may well be a mixture of unis.
For me it has definitely been harder but fingers crossed it'll ease off the next few weeks.

My DD went back about a month ago. I hate not having her here!

Good Luck to your son, angielou. I hope all goes well for him. Leeds has a fabulous reputation for being a student city, and I hope he manages to find his crowd.

moved DD into her first proper house today
and I feel so proud that I've created a person who is "ready to launch"

I look forward to visiting her in a few months (as I could not stay at her hall)

Thanks Leeds2, I think he will be much happier there. We're also in West Yorkshire so not that far for him to come home.
