DS has been using my old laptop that is about to give up the ghost... anyone come across any good deals?

Windows not a mac.

Have a look at UNiDAYS. There are some good discounts on there. I think you need an academic or school email address to join though.

One of mine bought one ( Windows) but I can't remember the make. So am utterly useless on the thread.
His twin is going to get an apple mac one of some kind - he is a very keen apple boy. He uses my old windows one which has got so slow you cannot even watch iplayer on it although I expect their older brother could reformat it and get it going faster.

I have emphasised they might want to insure them aganist accidental damage. Their sisters both broke lap tops at university and put me under heavy pressure to replace the essential instrument to enable the dissertation to be written and I don't want that again - these have to last 3 years or else.

We bought HP laptop from Currys. Don't buy software though, they can get all that free from uni once they have uni email / I T access.

DS2 bought a Lenova Ideapad 320s from Curry's (under £400). He doesn't need anything too powerful or with lots of storage and wanted something light. Second what Fax says about software - he's already downloaded Office 365 and anti-virus software from the uni. He's going to stick with his phone and old IPAD for music/video/social stuff.

John Lewis usually start promoting suitable laptops for students about now. It's not immediately obvious what's on offer at the moment but worth a browse. Got dd's from them last year. They usually do a 2 year warranty.
Also I found some useful reviews on student websites last year when I googled "laptop for student".
I'm sure Currys/PC world are/will be doing a promotion. They usually do a 10% cashback but you have to remember to claim for the cashback so many weeks later - they don't email you a reminder/link (at least I didn't get one for my Macbook last year, despite a promise they would).
