Is a MacBook worth it?

Looking to buy a new laptop for uni, was going to spend £400-£500 ish on a portable Acer model but have now heard that Apple offers student discount (10%) and a free pair of headphones when you buy a MacBook!

Just want some general opinions on whether they're worth the price tag or not - I do an essay based subject (Law) and have always been a Windows used so quite worried about finding it difficult to switch over.

Thanks!

Remember you'll probably also have to buy MS office for mac which might be more expensive than for a PC.

My DDs macbook has had 5 years of solid use (shes a creative) and its still great. She had a new fan under warranty the first year as it was noisy (sorted by going to an apple shop and waiting). I've never had a laptop so robust.

However, my son, swears by a windows laptop and bought one with a decent warranty (which he used twice). His is one year younger than my daughters and does him proud.

I'm not sure there is a real answer! Insurance cover might be more for the Macbook.

Most unis provide an institution account to Office etc, so there will proba oh be no need to,pay for it whichever option they choose.

We have all switched to macs because it is so much easier to get them repaired - either at a mac store or authorised retailer/repairer. All done to same standards and guaranteed, very efficiently. They, and their parts, are more expensive though but I wouldn't go back.
