Laptop Woes

I'm posting here for traffic. I have the worst luck with laptops - either not enough memory so I have to hook it up to external memory hard drive thing. Then went back to my old one which works but overheats and cooks my knee every time I use it. I just need a laptop with a decent sized screen, decent enough memory and a CD drive. I've looked on line but the whole hard drive size etc really confuses me?! I'm a student again so need something large enough that will fit my work docs and essays on without saying I need external memory to save what I need to. AIBU to ask what laptops you have? Or what laptop your student children have? Does anyone have the Dell Inspiron 5000 or similar? I've looked and it's got either brilliant or rubbish reviews - please help!!

My student DC save everything to cloud, mainly OneDrive, but there is plenty of free cloud storage around., so memory isn't an issue nor is it the end of the world if the laptop dies. They just have cheap basic laptops.
Students get free access to lots of software through uni as well.

Thanks for your reply Wanda, it's not uni I'm at, its college and with by the time I've finished at work their library is closed, so would prefer a laptop with decent enough storage as it's just easier?

I would look at John Lewis. DD had either a Lenovo or HP one from there with an i5 processor. Think it had 1 TB hard drive.

I have a Dell - it might be that one mentioned. It's very good.
