A level revision

Approx how many hours per day is your DC currently doing for A level revision? My DS has a 2 A* and 1 A offer and I don't think he is working hard enough. He has been out all afternoon and I assume will go out this evening as well. We are coming to blows over it but I feel I am the only one feeling stressed. Needless to say, DH never gets involved despite repeated requests. Any suggestions?

My DD is doing about six hours a day - 3x 2hr sessions. She is predicted AAA, and needs ABB.

Over the Easter holiday DS has aimed for four hours per day.

He's happy that he's got plenty done and says he will 'crank it up' as the exams get closer.

He's aiming for high grades.

DD says she's been trying to do two or three a day but she's away working in the US so how doable this has been I don't know.

Depends on his learning style. I was a crammer and always knew I was. I only used to revise for about two days before the exam - and I mean all day for those two days - just doing every past paper I could get my hands on and correcting them myself to see where I was going wrong, reading and re-reading the textbook, etc.

I was never the type to revise for weeks before the exam (I'm a procrastinator), yet I got top grades because when it became crunch time, I did put the effort in.

What approach did he take to his GCSE revision, and did that seem to work for him?

Absolutely no revision going on in our house and DD needs AAB.
She has been hanging out with her boyfriend all afternoon then going to her evening job behind a bar.
She says she does plenty of work in school and doesn't see why she should do any at home !

She crammed for AS exams and got ABU.

I have backed off. Anything I say she does the opposite.
Can win.

My DS has two A-levels looming. He needs B's. He achieved C and E in mocks.
Over the Easter Hols he has revised for probably 5 hours in total. I say revised, but a lot of that seemed to be altering his playlist and sighing whilst swigging Diet Coke.
Wish I could say I was cool with this .

dds college suggest 4-6 hours a day with weekends free for AS levels over the holidays. Seems like quite a gentle revision plan.

It depends on the child. If you are like my 're you have a good memory, get how to answer exam questions and work at college then you can get away with doing very little holiday revision it would seem!

Quite encouraged by these posts. DDs has being putting in quite a few hours every day over the holidays taking only 3 days off over the fortnight. She needs to though as she has been struggling to get to the grades she needs over the year. She spends a lot of the time on her weaker subject (chemistry) and now I worry the other subjects will suffer. She is not well organised and seems incapable of making a revision plan and sticking to it... I find it difficult to back off... please forward the time to August!

Mine is at the er... how shall we say... 'more relaxed' end of the scale.
They are who they are though.
I offer to help.
I let her off normal 'chipping in with the housework' expectations.
I ask her how it's going.
I remind her how little time there is until the exams, and, proportionately what a tiny amount of her life that is, compared with how much she wants to go to university, and what a difference those few extra hours will make.
However, there comes a time when you have to take the 'You can lead a horse to water but not make it drink' approach and you find your blood pressure comes down a lot.
