Benefits when single parent studying

Hi, I am trying to find out what I would be entitled to if I started university in September. I have looked about and can't really find a straight answer, I am currently not working and have a 2.5 year old daughter, I know I will get maintenance grant, and PLA, but will I get any housing benefit? Or will it need to be paid out of student finance. I would love to know before I put in an application, I would love to study but would rather not if I would be struggling to feed my dd or pay my rent I would rather just go back to my old job any single parents studying that could help me? Or know where I could find out Thank you.

Ok you will get child tax credits. You won't pay council tax as you will be exempt from it.

Some of your student income is counted they deduct a set amount for course costs. (Around £700) then remove the £10 A week income disregard. And they use the left over figure divided over x amount of week as your income. As a single parent this will most likely mean you get full or almost full housing benefit. The university should have a hardship fund which I highly recommend applying to as they have money to give grants to students which don't count as income... but they need to be applied for on individual basis... as an example I get £3000 a year from the university but I have to apply 3 times a year.

Also does the university yoy are applying for have a finance advice department... mine have a computer system that they can use a bit like entitled to that gives you an accurate amount.. they also liased with housing benefit when they didn't know what they were doing.

Plus I haven't done so but im pretty sure you can get income support/jsa over the summer holidays

FT HE student single parent of one here, claiming all I can re tax credits etc and I get only £10 a week HB when I was led to believe it would be almost full although I am Ctax exempt.
