Guaranteed conditional offer for conservatoire

DS was verbally told he had "got a place" on a course at a conservatoire last week, immediately after his audition. It finally appeared on track today as Guaranteed Conditional. The condition being 'receipt of a satisfactory academic reference! He thought his guidance teacher said she had sent his reference off. Two other people he knows who auditioned for the same course who go to two different schools have had the same offer, but a couple of other people he knows got unconditional offers.

He is going to speak to his school tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this before? DS is incredibly disorganised. Otoh can two other people he knows on the same course also be so scatterbrained or has the conservatoire made a mistake?

I'd never heard of applicants having references as conditions. And I knew DS and the other two had the exam grades needed for this Scottish conservatoire - exams taken in Scottish equivalent of Y12.

School sent the reference in again and by the end of the afternoon DS had a lovely Guaranteed Unconditional offer on his UCAS. Looks like the conservatoire had lost the references. So nice to have it in black and white.

My DD has also applied for the RCS but she is overseas on a scholarship year and couldn't attend the audition, instead she sent a recorded audition as per their instruction. She got an email last week to say her application had been withdrawn as she had failed to attend her audition! According to them, they sent an email in October with an audition date, but she is adamant that she didn't receive it. Someone has mucked up somewhere. They now acknowledge that they have her recording and her UCAS status has changed to 'audition pending'.

Oh my goodness. What a faff for her - I've posted on your thread about her being in China btw. I'm glad her RCS application is sorted now. I am the 'secondary' email address for DS' UCAS and their emails are going into my 'Promotions' ie junk mail - perhaps that is common and therefore easy to miss. I know of a uni applicant who almost missed an interview as he missed an email that had gone into his junk folder.

DS' course - not classical - at RCS had a preliminary recorded submission round for the first time this year. Apparently they extended the deadline as so many applicants hadn't seen the two little sentences about it.

Yes it's great to have an unconditional offer. I feel for all the young people and their families having to wait until March to hear from Edinburgh and St Andrews and all the applicants who get conditional offers. Mind you, DS is incredibly scatterbrained so I must remember to remind him to actually accept it before the deadline passes. I do worry about him doing this degree instead of something useful, but if he was doing something useful I'd probably still worry that his heart wasn't in it! He's also auditioning for Guildhall so no relaxing yet, but I don't think he'll get a place. I think the only way he could afford the living costs would be if he got a scholarship, which is even less likely.

RCS goes to Shanghai to audition for RCS sometime in the New Year. But that probably still isn't convenient for your DD as Shanghai is hundreds of miles from the nearest Chinese big town I think.
