Baked salmon? Wow, I'm impressed. No illness save a hangover for DS1 ...yet.

GasLightShining · 20/10/2016 21:54

I am too impressed with salmon!

jaxxyj · 21/10/2016 01:28

I can't cook for toffee but my DD has managed sweet potato and spinach samosas from the BBC good food website - WTH! I will be demanding exquisite cuisine from her when she returns at xmas!

Jaxxyj - they look good!
DD seems to be cooking stir fries - she keeps posting me snapchats! I think the rest of the time is probably pizza!

Some good cooking going on in student accommodation recently :)

Very impressed!

My DS seems ok. I WhatsApp him every couple of days. Still want to go over and see him but don't want to push him. It's too long to wait until December.

Dunlurking · 21/10/2016 09:43

Also impressed with the stir fries and samosas.

Very excited about our visit having booked a Travelodge yesterday. Why is it that you look at a price one day and when you come to book 3 days later it is a lot higher? Confused Gave up on a more convenient Premier Inn for that reason

Coconutty That's sneaky Grin. Also worth using Quidco for cash back on Booking.com.
We visited DS for lunch last week. It was so lovely to talk face to face, I think you get more of a sense of how they feel maternal mind reading skills when you are with them rather than analysing texts.
I took cake and freezer meals. Alas no cooking photos.

Dunlurking · 21/10/2016 10:13

Coconutty thank you! I thought there must be some way the site recognises you next time. Will do that. I'm trying to book a cheap (impossible I know) London visit in December and suspect the same thing is happening so will sort it!

Squirrills you are shaming me. I never thought of taking food and freezer stuff. Don't think it will happen as I'm too busy the previous week. Shame you can't get him to Face Time/Skype. Ds accidentally Face Timed his grandmother instead of us 2 days ago. She was over the moon!

My boy is home for the weekend, arrived quite late last night after a very full day of lectures! He went into his bedroom and wailed "it looks so bare in here, what have you done with all my stuff?!" To which the obvious reply was "you took most of it to Uni!" 😀

NoahVale · 22/10/2016 08:22

dd's younger sister has gone up to stay with dd in uni halls. I did plan to pack some extra for her to take but her bag was full, she has taken an abundance of clothes for the weekend! Grin

Off to visit for lunch later.

Dizzydora71 · 22/10/2016 22:38

Hi Ladies my daughter went off to uni in September last child at home after 24 years .what do you do with your time ?Its only been 5 weeks and I'm so bored .

homebythesea · 23/10/2016 08:15

Dizzydora - one word: VOLUNTEER!

It's the most flexible and rewarding way to use that precious commodity of time that you have to offer. Have a look at www.do-it.org and you can search for opportunities in your area according to things that interest you.

LIZS · 23/10/2016 08:22

Pleased to report he still seems happy, especially with another batch of cake! Full of snivels though but it seems the bugs just circulate and recirculate round the block. He's back overnight next week for an orthodontist appointment so is looking forward to home cooking , requested not chicken as that seems to be the catering staple.

hellsbells99 · 23/10/2016 08:46

Lizs - glad to hear your DS is fine! I am hoping to see one of my DDs for a bite to eat later this week as I will be in her city for work.

We have had a lovely weekend up in Leeds with DD. She is off playing netball today so we are just packing up ready to catch our train home.

It was lovely to see her on her home territory and hear all of her stories about her new life here!

She was extremely excited to go to Gaucho's as she can't afford steak on a student's budget! Grin

We bought her a few bits of clothing and a printer, do she was very happy with that too!

I feel spoiled to have seen DS twice in the past few days- for the funeral and now at home. He's heading back later today, after sitting doing an essay today (like old times!!). He seems well but I'm concerned about the level of partying. He asked me to buy him a bottle of vodka to take back with him- no way! I said that's a luxury not a necessity and has to Be budgeted for! He's had an expensive first month including over £100 on books and a £60 traffic ticket which arrived 2 days after he left! It was important to me that he paid that himself, to see the consequences of being stupid Wink. So he's feeling poor, poor love Smile

Ta1kinpeece · 23/10/2016 20:07

weekly chat with DD done.
Will not see her till December.
DS going up to visit next week.
She's been selling spare portions of meals to folks in other flats - proud mum ;-)

Not at all ... she made a big lasagne with the plan of freezing most for a later day ... a kid from another flat bought a portion.
She plans to do the same with pie and cake next week

Bejazzled · 23/10/2016 20:24

I'm a bit speechless at the selling spare portions, is that a thing?
DS and his roommates have been either just making their own (nothing fancy like the above posts Smile) or mucking all in together for big pasta or stir fries.

Ta1kinpeece · 23/10/2016 20:42

When she and her flat mates combine to provide a meal then its all cool

when somebody from another flat comes and wants a ready cooked meal I cannot see any problem in charging ....
DD bought the ingredients, did the cooking and put it together
its the same as them buying from the shop IMHO

she's great at baking.
She has commissions to produce birthday cakes
its either her or the shop down the road
should she work for free just because she's a student?
