I had to do an emergency dash to ds on Sunday. He is getting on ok during the week but finds weekends hard and had just got overwhelmed in an ASD sort of way.
I managed to help him sort out some practical stuff and we were having a cosy chat and planning what could make weekends easier. The timer went off to say his laundry had finished in the dryer so he went to collect it. He came back upset and fuming because it had disappeared.
I expect someone has taken his by mistake but it hasn't turned up yet. He did have some clean clothes and I topped up his underwear and towels before I left this morning. His OCD means he can't cope with rewearing clothes and he has had difficulty managing touching used clothing in the past so I was really pleased that he was coping quite well. I just hope this doesn't set him back too much.

dunlurking we went here hickorys.co.uk/burtongreen/ Perfect for a Saturday lunchtime with DSs 14, 17 and DS1. DS2 (with ASD) likes a plain burger, no cheese, no salad, no mayo with fries and Heinz ketchup (!) so this sort of American diner was ideal. Definitely not the place for a Sunday roast! Grin Two advantages were it's a five minute drive from the uni and it got a really high rating on trip advisor. My pulled pork and beans was lovely. I'm hoping to visit DS1 without the other boys next time and would like a Sunday carvery or maybe a curry. If you find a nice pub let me know.

NoHaudin your poor DS! I used to hate the launderette at uni. People were so selfish in emptying your clothes from the machines and dryers if you weren't guarding them. They'd even take stuff out and put it on the floor! Sometimes before they'd finished washing or drying. We used to wait with them on a rota with my friends in the end. I really hope his clothes turn up.

Sorry to hear more about the DC who are poorly, hope they get well soon!
I had a phonecall with my son tonight, sounds like he is having a great time but not willing to part w much info! Me :Ooh so you went to a party, who with? DS:People from uni. At least I am getting the full updates from my daughter!

yolofish · 18/10/2016 00:57

finally finally things are looking up for DD1 - she has got a flat swap in 10 days time, moving in with all 1st years and she knows 3 of them already; and managed to get her some antibiotics for bloody freshers flu (yeah yeah its viral, no one needs antibs etc etc, but she has been SO ill for 2 weeks). Everything crossed!
Hope everyone else's poorly ones are getting through it

hellsbells99 · 18/10/2016 08:06

Good news Yolo!
My DD1 also has some antibiotics now as it is on her chest (asthmatic) and her ears are infected. Both girls ended up home at the weekend coughing away. My DH said they were on good form though. I was away but came home Sunday afternoon so it was great to see them for a couple of hours. Both were sat surrounded by books doing homework - it felt like the old days! They both said they have a lot of work.

hellsbells99 · 18/10/2016 08:09

Nohaudin - I hope your DS gets his washing back! Did her check all the other dryers and machines in case someone had moved his stuff? It sounds like he is coping well.

hellsbells99 · 18/10/2016 08:14

I was talking to a friend at the weekend. She said her DD had settled in fine and was enjoying uni and the social scene but comes home every Saturday night and then goes back Sunday at 5ish. She says that Saturday night is the quiet night when no one does much except see boy/girlfriends and Sunday daytime is very quiet. She is happy and this arrangement is working for her at the moment - luckily she is not far away.

Pleased to hear dc are on the mend now and hopefully accommodation issues are improving. I sent Ds a parcel yesterday including some decongestants as he was moaning about his sinuses. Also included some homemade cookies! It's been over 4 weeks now but might go over for lunch on Saturday. He's pretty pleased with himself that he has managed to get on a U.S. Trip in the spring,

Squirrills · 18/10/2016 10:48

The first time DS did his laundry he went back and was horrified because he thought all his stuff had gone, it turned out it was all stuck to the rim of the machine. The machine was so big it looked as though it was empty.
Maybe worth a look back to see if the stuff has been taken out and left somewhere?
DS is now into week 3 of his bug which has meant that he's missed all the clubs and societies that he signed up for in freshers.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 18/10/2016 13:17

No sign of ds's laundry yet. He check all the dryers and surfaces and I went with him to double check. It definitely wasn't there. There is system which allows you to check the machines on your phone and ds had also set an alarm to alert him as to when his wash was finished so it can't have finished more than 5 mins at most before he got there.
Weekends are really quite and he doesn't cope without a timetable. It is quite a trek to come home especially with the Severn tunnel closed at the moment.

At least he hasn't been ill. I hope all those who have been are really on the mend now.

dottygamekeeper · 18/10/2016 13:24

Yolofish so glad that it looks as if everything is getting sorted for your daugher re accommodation.

I emailed the uni accommodation office yesterday re the problems with my DS's bathroom (he had been dealing with it but had given up the will to go on once he got ill) and they sent someone out immediately to inspect, fit a new shower, remove the rusty rack, clean out the drains and have agreed that once his new floor is fitted on Thursday (after cleaning away the mould) they will then deep clean the whole bathroom. I am very impressed with the result, and DS is happy as it had been worrying him!

Sorry to hear other DCs have been suffering - for my DS antibiotics are working wonders, we can see the swellings going down and the pus disappearing. Although I appreciate that part of his illness is viral, there does seem to have been a bacterial element and it seems a shame that the Drs reluctance to prescribe meant he missed a weeks worth of lectures and sports activities and ended up in hospital (where they immediately put him on IV antibiotics).

I am not bashing Drs and do believe that antibiotics have been over prescribed in the past, but it seems that now the pendulum has swung the other way.

Hoping that everyone's DCs make a swift recovery.

LIZS · 18/10/2016 15:09

Parcel arrived safe and sound! He's still a bit miffed because his wine glasses that disappeared in the first week have yet to resurface and last week someone threw away the leftovers of the cake I sent which he had left out in the kitchen for others to help themselves.

RoscoPColtrane · 18/10/2016 17:55

Nohaudin, I am usually a lurker, my daughter is a first year in Cardiff - I think the Severn tunnel reopens on Saturday

NoahVale · 18/10/2016 19:41

dd came home, just a flying visit, however she has trouble with getting a santander bank account, experien credit rating not good apparently and she really wants the free student rail card.
she has now got on both electoral roles.
what else can she do?

NoahVale · 18/10/2016 19:42

was shocked and concerned about pale dd was, she is not sleeping , but overslept this morning.
she says she is cooking and eating.

GasLightShining · 18/10/2016 19:46

Not been on for a while.

Home - sorry about your MIL

Yolo - good news for your DD

Hope the illnesses sort themselves out soon

Rosco Cardiff Met here. Think Cardiff is a fantastic place to visit. My DD was n heaven when she went down to visit her brother.

He is coming home this weekend - very excited (me not him). Might not be saying that when I am tackling the washing!

that;s what I thought Coconutty, I offered to pay,
any idea if a student bank account is Always so difficult to get?

NapoleonsNose · 18/10/2016 20:16

Has your DD looked up her credit rating on Noddle Noah? Its completely free and might be worth doing in case there is something weird going on. My DD didn't seem to have any trouble opening a Santander account. She's on the electoral roll here and doesn't have any other credit.

Glad to hear that the ill DC are feeling a bit better now. It must be horrible when they are so far away and you can't do much for them.

DD seems to be settling in well. The silverfish infestation has been dealt with thankfully. She's been a bit cagey, but we think she has a date next week. She's off to watch Chelsea play Fulham in London 'just with a boy in her halls'. She's a massive football fan takes after her father, not me as I hate it so she's super excited. We live in the deepest SW, so being able to go to big events is a real departure from the norm.

NoahVale · 18/10/2016 20:57

thanks napolean, i will suggest noodle.

angieloumc · 19/10/2016 18:12

My DS seems to be settled in well, he's not had any illnesses yet and it's good he's not here as me and DD are just recovering from the flu. He's coming home next Thursday, just overnight, we were going to visit him there but he wants to see my mum as she's having a serious op the week after that.
I haven't asked him if he's done laundry yet, what an awful mother for forgetting Confused

GasLightShining · 19/10/2016 19:18

Angie don't ask about the laundry - it might remind him to bring it home!!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 19/10/2016 23:32

DS1 still seems happy, even if finding the work quite challenging.

He's sent me a picture of his first bolognaise. I'm impressed. Much better than the charcoaled sausages, chips and bean fest from earlier!

Ellen glad to hear he's getting the hang of the cooking. Ds attempted baked salmon last night and was pleased with the result except for a very bland white sauce apparently. Oh and the dreaded Freshers Flu has arrived in Warwick, although he didn't look or sound as if he had real flu on Face Time. Thanks for the tip about hickorys.
