GasLIght good luck for your ds’s redo year and getting the finance. Congratulations all those dcs who’ve just graduated. I hope everyone’s had a lovely time celebrating. Do got his 2.1 from Warwick so he’s on the course at Trinity Laban now for September. Hoping he might get a scholarship to help with the fees but not holding my breath. Anyway he’s working hard in the village shop and enjoying his social life and is in a very good mood generally, unlike dd who gets A levels results next week. Fingers crossed. Then we’ll be empty nesters!

MillicentMartha · 10/08/2019 22:04

That’s great Dunlurking. I wonder if our boys ever came across each other at Warwick? Can’t believe it’s all over so quickly. Good luck to your DD. My DS3 gets his AS results on Thursday so still got a year to go.

Dunlurking · 11/08/2019 09:24

Thanks MillicentM I know it feels so unexpected that Warwick is done with. No more stays in the Leam Travelodge or Premier Inn! Good luck to DS3 for results. Can anyone remember waaaaaay back when our dcs were applying if someone posted about what happened to accommodation if you rejected a course but changed to another at the same uni? Dd wants to trade up if her results let her, but is worried that she would automatically lose her hall place and have to reapply. I'm sure someone on here had a dc with this issue, or knew it happened.

hellsbells99 · 11/08/2019 20:58

GasLight sorry your DS didn’t do as well as he hoped and good luck for this next year. The extra year did DD1 good and helped her grow up a bit.
Millicent and Dunlurking hope the A level results go well!

Leeds2 · 11/08/2019 22:52

Hope the next year goes well for your DS GasLight.

raspberryrippleicecream · 28/09/2019 20:05

Good luck for this year Gaslight.

Ds1 left this week for his final year. DS2 has just gone into Y12 so starting the whole process again for the third and final time!

MillicentMartha · 29/09/2019 01:00

DS1 is now happily living in Manchester and has just received his first payslip. No student loan repayments and less tax until April so it was a healthy one. Just as well what with a big rent deposit.

I’ve got DS3 in Y13, raspberry so currently doing PS etc. No more after him!

Dunlurking · 29/09/2019 11:53

Well done to your ds1 @MillicentMartha. And good luck to yours for final year @raspberryrippleicecream. And good luck to the later dses. Mine seems settled on his graduate diploma course in London. But I’m an empty nester today - dropped dd off at York yesterday for the start of her first year. I think this is a good time to say thanks to @Squirrills for her friendship and support over the years - her dcs were ahead of mine at both dc’s unis. We first “met” on a preceding thread for this year group at least 4 years ago. And we’ve met in real life. Hopefully our next coming up soon. Flowers to her!

Squirrills · 30/09/2019 17:56

Just saw this thread pop up. Was it really 2016? Seems like longer.
Glad to hear your DS is settled @MillicentMartha. That first six months pay is nice for them, no student loan and not too much tax.
DS2 has just got a little job locally while he continues to look for grad jobs. He's ever had a clue what he wanted to do but is narrowing it down now.
Hope you're not too sad about the empty nest @Dunlurking. Thanks for the Flowers. A strange coincidence that both our DC have gone to the same universities, albeit not at the same time.

Dunlurking · 30/09/2019 18:28

@Squirrills yes funny how it worked out. Dh away atm so I've the house to myself. Yesterday I moped around in my pjs recovering from the day return trip to York. Today I've cleaned the kitchen and put a clean tablecloth on the dining room table now there are no dcs to mess everything up instantly! Back to novel writing in peace and quiet tomorrow!

Sunndowne · 30/09/2019 18:46

I also remember many of your names. Have name changed many times. My DS who struggled educationally achieved a first and has just started an interesting grad job. Year one at uni, we thought he wouldn't pass!!!
Good luck to all those DC.
Am I right in thinking one of yours did STEM in a southern Russell group squirrels? Maybe got it wrong but someone did and inspired us at application stage.

Dunlurking · 30/09/2019 19:20

Congratulations to your ds Sunndowne. How lovely to hear.

Squirrills · 30/09/2019 19:27

@Sunndowne yes elder son did maths at Warwick and is now a teacher. Loves it. Glad to hear your DS came through and has landed a grad job. They do grow up a lot between 18 and 21 don't they?

Sunndowne · 30/09/2019 20:26

Yes a lot! My DS is an engineer from top course. Wow! Can't believe it. He was statements at school!! Support from home and school meant he just overcame his hurdles so far.

Sunndowne · 30/09/2019 20:27

Autocorrect *statemented

Sunndowne · 30/09/2019 20:33

Thank you dunlurking.
Congrats to your DS squirrels.

LIZS · 11/11/2019 13:46

Ds had a letter from SLC today demanding to know his work status as loan is due for repayment. He is still applying for jobs and has done a little (unpaid) work experience. Is it worth him registering for JSA now, even though he is living back home?

MillicentMartha · 11/11/2019 21:08

I I’m not sure, LIZS. Loans aren’t due for repayment until April, though. Is JSA as prescriptive as UC?

Squirrills · 12/11/2019 14:24

@LIZS DS has had that student loan letter as well. Just filed it away as they don't start repaying until next April and then only if earning over £26kish. As to JSA I'd say he probably could claim now. DS has a part time job so is earning a bit while still doing mountans of job applications.

LIZS · 12/11/2019 14:44

Thanks @Squirrills We just looked at jsa but he does not seem to be entitled as has not paid ni nor has the qualifying disability benefit.

MillicentMartha · 12/11/2019 17:08

JSA sounds like unemployment benefit, which you used to get if you’d paid enough NI. UC is more like the old supplementary benefit. He might be entitled to it?

hellsbells99 · 13/11/2019 19:58

Hi. Yes it is UC now.
DD1 has managed to get a grad scheme job so she is very happy. It is weird having her living back at home but she is looking to move out after Xmas.
DD2 is in her 4th year and is very busy applying for grad schemes for next year.
Hope all your DCs are getting on well.

MillicentMartha · 13/11/2019 20:32

Thanks, hellsbells. Glad your DDs are doing well. Good luck on the job hunt for DD2.

DS1 is happy still in his grad job in Manchester. He likes it up there, says the people are really friendly. I miss him but I’m visiting in a couple of weeks. I get a Friday off so I’ll train up and do some Christmas shopping, then meet him after work for some food, stay overnight and train home on Saturday. That way I don’t hijack his entire weekend.

He’ll come home over Christmas. 🎄Star. His graduation is in January at Warwick. Excited!

hellsbells99 · 13/11/2019 21:49

MillicentMartha the Manchester Christmas markets are nice - lots of mulled wine and cider. Glad to hear your DS is enjoying Manchester. DD2 has applied for schemes there.
I bet you are looking forward to your DS’ graduation. DD1’s was in July.

MillicentMartha · 14/11/2019 10:16

Mulled wine and cider? Bliss. Goodness, going by train was a good idea!
