Student loan query

How do you check the balance of your student loan account? DS says he can't see it anywhere when he sign on to the Student loan site. He hasn't had a statement from them - even though he had a loan last year. Is it just him missing something? I can't think of any other financial institution that would get away with not giving you at least an annual statement of account for a loan.

Without going into too much detail, DS has taken a year out this year but it is unclear whether or not Student Loans have paid his course fees. In fact they say they have paid it because they said the Uni needs to tell them not to pay it (apparently DS telling them is not good enough). I thought borrowing money was between DS and the SLC and nothing to do with the Uni - but seemingly not. So he needs to check from his balance if it has been paid or not (because other evidence suggest not) but every time he rings SLC he gets given different information but having read about SLC on here I'm not surprised

I always have to reapply each academic year. If he didn't reapply it wouldn't be processed.

When you log in it tells you what loans you have under your name etc

The tuition fee loan goes straight to the university.

He did re-apply thinking he was going to go back - but then didn't go. He rang SLC who said they would send a change of circumstances form, which never materialised. He rang them again and again they said they would send a form. He then got the email to say the 1st installment would be paid in the next couple of days, so he rang them and they said they would block the payment - they didn't! He then rang them to pay the money back (maintenance loan only) which he did on debit card. They told him he would be charged interest on the money for the few days it was in his account - even though it was there error. They also said the couldn't stop the Uni fees payment unless the Uni told them not to pay it. He emailed the Uni and asked them to contact Student Loans Co and confirm he was not attending this year. He hasn't had a reply from the Uni. So as it stands, he doesn't know if SLC have paid the 1st installment (or indeed £9k) to the Uni for a course he is not attending and SLC say in an emails that they have paid it - but his account shows the payment as approved rather than paid. They don't seem to know what they are doing. And the change of circumstances form has still not materialised!
