Foundation Art courses

My daughter has just spent 2 years on a UAL media course in our local college. She feels she has learnt very little, had no help to get a good grade and is not confident to got to university. She wants to do a Foundation Art course at the same college. My questions are: How can I look at ratings for 16-18 colleges? Perhaps she should travel to another town? Are there any ratings sites for 6th form/tech colleges?

Does she need to go to the same local college to do this? Lots of Universities offer Foundation Art courses and also teach undergraduate too so they are not 16-18 colleges.

She really needs to widen her approach to finding a course. If it is UAL, they have Foundation courses in their major colleges in London. Why not look at these? Also, I believe some of them will guarantee access onto a degree course from the Foundation provided a reasonable level is achieved. Also, a media course is not necessarily preparation for Foundation Art. Does she have the necessary prior learning to get onto a Foundation Art course? These start at 18 and I understood they were post A level courses, not 16-18 courses. I could be wrong as DD went straight onto a UAL degree course, at 18, with A levels and no Foundation. I think a lot more research is needed.

Thank you, yes she has the qualifications to do art foundation. I just want to know where we can look at the results from her college and others in the area.
I'm trying to find a ratings site for 6th form colleges. So far all I've found are Ofsted reports.

I don't think there are ratings. My local FE college is inspected by Ofsted. However they do not run Foundation Art courses. Personally I would visit suitable colleges and talk to students about quality of teaching. Also, teachers change so you need to look at where the Foundation Art students end up for destinstins. If they go on to quality art institutions and universities then they are probably good courses.

6th form colleges are 16-19 education. They are inspected by Ofsted and they will be ranked for A level results by the Leaugue tables for A levels. Not Btec though I think.

You can ask them for their stats: how many kids get distinctions, merits, passes. How many drop out. My daughter chose her course partly because it got good results. When she got her Uni offered they were a mixture of pass, merit and unconditional.
