Dear all,

I have really enjoyed these threads. So if anyone else wants to keep up posts on DC travelling through trials and tribulations of uni life - do post here.
Smile

Have your DC been revising at all for instance? Do you now stand back?

OP posts:

Well, having posted before about DS being organised Blush - I have just found the books his friend (who stayed at our house at the beginning of the Easter holidays) left because he could not get them into his bag and also DS's squash raquet, as Ds is going back tomorrow morning early and they need to join the mountain of packing. DS was a little quiet this evening - he has exams Friday and Saturday. I think he has had a decent mix of relaxing and working but I suspect now it has come upon him he is wondering about the balance. I suspect it will be OK. But, who knows. All luck to DCs with exams coming up.

MrsBartlet · 21/04/2016 20:36

Dd's exams are over! They finished yesterday and seemed to go ok. She can now enjoy a lovely term of Shakespeare (very appropriate with the 400th anniversary imminent!)

LittlehamHums · 22/04/2016 17:54

dd2 went for her interview and got the job. It was a real long shot too. Grin

Decorhate · 22/04/2016 18:00

Is that for a summer job littleham?

My dd has had her job offer withdrawn. As I predicted Hmm

Fairenuff · 22/04/2016 18:56

Congrats to your dd Littleham.

I haven't heard anything about exams yet but will probably catch up with dd over the weekend. Good luck to everyone else. Do we know when they get their results?

LittlehamHums · 22/04/2016 21:58

No. It is for a Saturday job in the university city.

Even better it is directly connected to her degree subject. She is going to love it as it involves talking to people - her favourite occupation!

Sorry about your dd's job Decorhate. Is she going to look for another one?

Decorhate · 23/04/2016 07:15

Yes she is. But obv harder to arrange now that she has gone back. The Saturday job sounds interesting! Will she continue with it during the holidays?

LittlehamHums · 23/04/2016 10:24

No she won't. They are happy for her to come back home to work ( she has something lined up for the summer at home) so it fits in really well.

Sympathise a lot because we have the same situation with dd1. I keep dropping hints about getting a small job but she prefers to write her book in her spare time and drift around in the land of Narnia! She has now sent off some applications so the situation is gradually improving. I live in hope.

LittlehamHums · 23/04/2016 10:25

(.......as in back home at end of summer term and restarting new Saturday job in Autumn term)

MarianneSolong · 23/04/2016 18:10

Phonecall from daughter who is working hard. She says she has told her boyfriend she doesn't want a boyfriend while she is revising for exams...

HocusWireless · 23/04/2016 18:56

Is he on a retainer Marianne ? Smile

MarianneSolong · 23/04/2016 20:14

Not sure - time will tell Hocus!

NiceCardigan · 25/04/2016 19:51

That's all mine back so the house is quiet again. Me and DH are going on our first long holiday together since our honeymoon in a couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to that. DD2 has exams while we are away but she only has two and then she starts working on her dissertation so she doesn't mind being cheered on from a distance! I have no idea when DS's exams are.

Horsemad · 25/04/2016 23:04

Have a lovely holiday NiceCardigan Smile

MrsBartlet · 26/04/2016 19:08

That sounds lovely NiceCardigan - dh and I have a few years to go yet before we will be having holidays on our own but I have already started planning where I would like to go Grin Hope you have a lovely time!

NiceCardigan · 26/04/2016 21:18

Thank you I am looking forward to being warm! Snow here today in London and we all rushed to look out the window at work like children Smile

DS has the results of from the assessed essay he did before Easter and he got a high 2.1 so that's a good start just 5x 3 hour exams to go!

MrsBartlet · 26/04/2016 21:23

I was in Hertfordshire for work today and I drove through a hail storm and snow! Well done to your ds - that is great! Don't know when dd gets her results. I am seeing her for coffee tomorrow as I have meetings nearby.

MrsBartlet · 27/04/2016 21:23

Saw dd for coffee today and she seems so happy that it made me feel better (been missing her lots despite having a puppy to replace her!) She seems to be working hard but having fun, too. It is her birthday next week and they are going punting in the afternoon followed by about 25 people going to a formal for her birthday and then a party in her kitchen. One of her school friends is coming as well so she is very excited. She has also finally got round to writing something for the newspaper (this is what she wants to do when she leaves university) so I am happy she is getting into that now. She is missing the puppy lots though Grin

GypsyFl0ss · 30/04/2016 08:24

DD went back last Sunday and has her first french oral exam on Monday. Although typing that I've just realised it's a BH on Monday...I wonder whether she will still have it?

DS starts study leave soon for his AS exams and then we start the round of uni visits. I just don't know where the time has gone to!

scaryteacher · 01/05/2016 17:31

Dropped ds back to uni last Saturday. He had one exam on Friday, had two this week, and another couple to come. He than has a week off, and after that stuff starts for the units in September. They have to stay for those, or will fail the year. Third year, and dissy in September.....as I have offered to proof read it, he knows he has to do it in a timely manner, and chapter by chapter. I am so not doing a 2 day turn round on it as I did for db with his MA!

SoThatHappened · 01/05/2016 22:31

Have your DC been revising at all for instance? Do you now stand back?

My mum stood back when i was doing a-levels. I didnt do the work, I failed my exams, it's that simple.

I am literally Shock that these threads exist, my mum never knew what work I had to do for when or when I had exams. If they need mum to push them when they're adults to work on a course they presumably chose unless mum was involved with that too they shouldnt be at uni.

LittlehumHams · 01/05/2016 22:51

This is a nice friendly forum where people can chat. If it isn't your thing then that is great. If you were to read most of the posts you would see that they are a pretty independent bunch. By the way, NO family is perfect.

Fairenuff · 01/05/2016 23:06

I only know because I ask. If I didn't I wouldn't have a clue what's going on in my dcs lives.

You're looking at it from a child's point of view whereas we are parents with young adult children who are, effectively, leaving home. And yes, they are independant now but it's still lovely to keep in touch and share our news with each other on this thread Smile

GypsyFl0ss · 02/05/2016 12:04

I only know about Dd as she's an oversharer 😄 When DS goes I won't have a clue and that's fine too. I write here not to express my worries about them but to natter and share news. This is a great thread for ideas and support if needed and I'm really pleased they exist.

PUGaLUGS · 02/05/2016 12:39

I am also pleased these threads exist. I do not push DS. He knows what he needs to do.
