Apprenticeships

Hi, my daughter is 17 and wanting to take an apprenticeship next year. This year she is doing a Computer Programming course at the local college. What I want to know is if she wants to loo for an apprenticeship for next year, when does she start looking/applying as she will finish in June? She is also desperate to earn some money, but as a lone parent, if she starts any kind of work, apprenticeship I will lose my tax credits, and HB/CTX help as well. I will be starting work 30 hours in April, so worried about where we go on this! x

Start looking ASAP. Some places have long waiting lists for apprenticeships (can be over a year). Its much better to be told, "please apply in x month" to "all the places have already gone".

Hi, most of the ones advertising in our area are due to start in April. That means that she would have to give up her course and do nothing from September to April of next year! This is stupid beyond belief-how is this supposed to work? She can't be sat at home all that time doing nothing, but she can't get an apprenticeship as she would have to leave college-which will also cost me dearly. Feel like a dog chasing its tail!
