Life After Results Day......

....thinking of booking a few days away at the end of August, possibly the last holiday we will all be together, sniff!

After DS1 has got his results on the 18th accepted or gone through clearing, is there anything else he needs to be around for at the end of August?

Am I right in thinking Uni starts end of September ?

They start back approx 21st September onwards (varies from uni to uni) so you will be fine to go on holiday once you have gone through Results week or clearing.

Do check when they start back. Some are very early this year. I'm External Examiner at a place where Freshers Week/Intro Week starts on 12th September. I know this, as I get invited to observe their induction activities.

Is it as late as 18th this year?

Typically the only things that really happen between results and actually starting uni are
a) Clearing / Adjustment open days, if he has gone through Clearing or Adjustment
b) getting an accommodation offer - depending on the uni, he may get an accommodation offer by email in the days after results day, and need to accept it within a fairly short timeframe (e.g. a week)
c) the customary trip to Ikea / Wilkinsons for all the clobber they need!

It won't be your last family holiday unless you want it to be.
University students have even longer summer breaks than schools so even if they go off on their own you can still fit something in.
I'm aiming to go away at the start of September with DS2 who is also going to start uni this autumn and DS1 who will be going into his third year.
You will probably find long before results day, there are lots of detailed threads of what they need to take to uni with them .

Hahah at last family holiday. Ds (second year at uni) loves a family holiday. Was gutted he missed out last trip to Jordan, Indiana Jones stylee, as we went at half term and he doesn't get half term ;-).

If we're paying he comes, what's not to like about free food and drink and free wifi for, and the possibility of new clothes because he looks like a tramp.

Of course he still has his own holidays. Kraków at Easter, Croatia in September, possible a visit back to us in the middle east.

"Clearing" sends shivers down my spine! I imagine it to be very fraught and stressful.

My DSs still join us for family holidays and they are in their 20s - we have separate holidays as well.
Read recently of a new phenomenon of adult children joining their parents' post retirement gap years! Think that might be a step too far, though would be happy to meet up with them during specific parts of such a trip.
